20. Describe the main types of scientific papers.

Before you start writing an article, you need to carefully consider which kind of article you want to create. In general, they are all very similar but there is some specificity that you need to take into account, which can change slightly depending on the journal. The most usual kind of paper is the Original Article that will typically be used to present the findings of a study, although it might be more convenient to prepare a Research Letter if the findings can be resumed in a shorter manuscript. The Reviews are also very common and they are useful to find great information on the state-of-art in the field. Strategically, a Review is an easy way to publish in a specific field, without having yet obtained significant results, in order to: 1- establish your contribution to the field and 2- gain credit for grants proposals.

Here is a list of the most common ones, including a short definition and the usual length permitted for each one:

21. Essay: “my master’s thesis” How do I Choose a Master’s Thesis Topic?

Your thesis is the culmination of the hard work and experience that you put into your graduate program, but you might find that you have a hard time coming up with a master’s thesis topic. A thesis is essentially a research project relating to your field of study. You can write about almost anything, but many students have a hard time narrowing down their choice of topics. Here are some tips and techniques to help you choose the subject that interests you the most.

Talk with Your Advisor

Master’s level programs pair you with an advisor when you enroll. This is a trusted professor, working within your program, that can guide you and assist you throughout your studies. Your advisor will also work closely with you on your thesis. The professor might suggest some data and information that you can use, give you notes on your paper and push you in the right direction. If you have problems coming up with a thesis topic, sit down with your advisor and talk about your interests and get some feedback about which topics are the best for you.
