16. Adjectives with - ing and –ed.

You are to distinguish between adjectives with –ing and –ed. Forms with –ing have an active meaning, but forms with –ed have a passive meaning.

Here are the examples: interesting – интересный; interested – заинтересованный

annoying – раздражающий; annoyed – раздраженный

17. Translate the following adjectives.

Frightened, exhausted, disappointing, embarrassing, boring, excited, frightening, embarrassed, fascinated, disappointed, exciting.

18. Derive appropriate adjectives with –ing and –ed to make pairs.

  4. (bore) lessons/ students

19. Improve your pronunciation skills.

Most of English words have one stress. It is marked with ˊ in transcription.

But a lot of words have two stresses: main and secondary ones. These may be simple and compound words. Secondary stress is marked with ̗ in transcription.

Some words have equal stresses. These are mainly words with negative prefixes and phrasal verbs.

20. Listen to the words and put them into the columns according to the pattern of stress.
