What Do You Know About Disease ?

Just what is disease? Disease is a change from the - condition. of good health. In disease, the normal structure or function of the body is harmed or weakened. Disease is often called sickness or illness⁰*,

A disease may last a brief time or a long time. It may be mild or severe. Some diseases such as the common cold may go away after a few days without any treatment. Other diseases require medical treatment to cure them. Still other diseases may require a lifetime of medical supervision ₄ to manage them.

Favorable standards of living help promote health. Also the body itself has defenses against disease. But now and then the defenses give way and illness occurs. Disease germs may break through the defenses. Parts of the body may begin to function poorly. Tissues⁽²⁾ in the body may grow in uncontrolled ways. Something may go wrong with certain chemical reactions in the body.

How do people know they are ill? Often they have symptoms such as pain, nausea, sore throat, lack of appetite_t fatigue^, or fever, However, a disease may be present without a person knowing it. Sometimes a disease is discovered during a routine health examination.

Ilnesses, that can be passed along by an infected person to a well person either directly or indirectly are called infectious or commutticable^w diseases.

In early 1900s infectious diseases were still a serious public health problem. Today as a result of improved hygiene⁽⁵⁾ and living conditions, new drugs, new kinds of medical treatment, and the widespread use of vaccines^, the picture has changed. Many diseases such as malaria, yellow fever, scarlet fever, small pox, and diphtheria have been almost wiped out. However, some of these diseases — and others — pose problems in certain areas of the

Sports in russia and in my life

Sport is very important in our life. It is popular among young and old people. Many people do morning exercises, jog in the morning and train themselves in clubs in different sections and take part in sport competitions*

I think that Physical Training is an im­portant subject at school. We have got Physical Training lessons twice a week, Boys and girls play volley-ball and bas­ket-ball at these lessons. There is a sportsground near our school. Schoolchil­dren go in for sports in the open air if the weather is fine. A lot of different compe­titions are held at schools, a great num ber of pupils take part in them. All par­ticipants try to get good results and be­come winners. I am sure that sport helps people to keep in good health. If you go in for sports, you have good health and don't catch cold, I like the proverb: "Good health is above wealth."

I am sure that children and grown-ups must take care of their health.

I go in for sports. I like to play foot­ball. My friend says that I am a good play­er. Our school has a football team, It is an amateur team, but we try to play football well. We pay a lot of attention to this popfilar and interesting game. Sometimes we play football with the other school football teams. We train a lot, we are in good shape and often we are winners.

National sports in Great Britain.., It is a very interesting question, because many kinds of sport have taken the origin in England.

The Englishmen love sports, they are called sports-lovers in spite of the fact that some of them neither play games nor even watch them. They only like to speak about sports.

Some kinds of sport are professional in England. Popular and famous players have a lot of money.

Many traditional sporting contests take place in England, for example, crick­et. It is played from May till September. This game is associated with England. There are many cricket clubs in this coun­try. English people like to play cricket. They think that summer without cricket isn't summer. Cricket is the English na­tional sport in summer. If you want to play cricket you must wear white boots, a white shirt and white long trousers.

There are two teams. Each team has eleven players. Cricket is popular in boys' schools. Girls play cricket too.

Football. It has got a long history. Football was played by the whole village teams in the Middle Ages in England.

Now football is the most popular game in Britain. It is a team game. There are some amateur teams but most of the teams are professional ones in England. Professional football is a big business. Football is played at schools too. If we speak about football we can mention an interesting fact in American football, called soccer. The captain of the team must be the oldest or best player.

Rugby football. You can see a ball in this game, but it is not round. It is oval. This is a team game, There are fifteen players in each team. It is a popular game in England. There are many amateur rug­by football teams.

Table tennis. Englishmen heard about table tennis in 1880. Then the Interna­tional Table Tennis Association was formed and the international rules were worked out.

Many people like to play table tennis. This is played by men and women too. There are some tennis clubs in England, but if you go and play there it is neces­sary to pay money for it.

Englishmen like playing tennis but many of them prefer to watch this game.
