Normalisation
Normalisation
is an impact assessment step that can be used on its own to provide
the relative contribution of impact categories to an overall
reference system, usually a region of total world emissions.
Normalisation is required before the weighting of impact categories
so that the weighting of categories is undertaken against the total
impacts for a region (for example, to determine the relative
importance of all carcinogenic effects to all resource depletions.)
Normalisation data for Australia are very scarce for most
non-greenhouse related data. For normalisation across Europe, many
of the missing data are proportioned either based on GDP or energy
consumption from Dutch data. A similar approach could be used where
required for Australian normalisation.
