9. Weeders
Tractor-mounted weeders (Fig. 33) with spring tines about 6 mm in diameter which pull out small weeds from a growing crop are gaining favour in some areas. Closely spaced tines are clamped to a linkage-mounted frame 6 or 7.5 m wide which folds for transport. The position of the tines can be adjusted and, if necessary, put out of operation. This feature can be used to weed potatoes by raising the tines over the rows so they do not damage the plants.

Safety check
Always disengage the power take-off shaft and stop the tractor engine before making an adjustment to a power harrow or rotary cultivator. This advice applies to all power driven implements.
