Logical assumptions (Логічні припущення) |
He must he exhausted (= I’m sure he is exhausted). She can’t be serious (=I’m sure she’s not serious). They couldn’t be on holidays (=I don’t think they are on holidays). |
He must have won the prize (=I am sure he has won the prize). She can’t have married Tom (=I am sure she didn’t marry Tom). They couldn’t have been friends (=I don’t think they were friends). |
Permission (Дозвіл) |
You can have a party (informal giving permission). Could I please speak? (more polite, asking for permission) You may speak (formal, giving permission). Might I bring my laptop with me? (more formal asking for permission ) |
