In modern warfare it is a communications system that is most important for the effective control of the troops. The success of any combat operation mainly depends on the communications system that the commander has at his disposal. Signal troops provide signal communications at all levels of command, from the Department of the Army down to frontline units. Signal troops are both a combat arm and a technical service. They provide communication networks to control all military operations.

They also develop and maintain communication, electronic, meteorological and pictorial equipment for the army.

Signal corps comprises a large number of specialized units, which are regular in any army corps, field army and division.

The main task of Signal Corps is to provide essential channels of signal communication for the commander to control the action of his troops. Besides, they are engaged in signal intelligence and photographic service of the army.
