WHAT IS ART?

Art is a term that describes human activities and its products .The most often it refers to painting, film, photography, sculpture, music, theatre, dance, literature.

Art is something that stimulates an individual's thoughts, emotions, beliefs, or ideas through the senses.

Sculptures, cave paintings, rock paintings are the oldest arts. The oldest art objects in the world—a series of tiny, drilled snail shells about 75,000 years old—were discovered in a South African cave. Containers that may have been used to hold paints have been found dating as far back as 100,000 years.

Music .To many people in many cultures, music is an important part of their way of life.Within "the arts", music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art, and auditory art.

Theatre is a form of fine art .Live performers present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music or dance.

Dance is an art form that generally refers to movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music.Dance is a form of nonverbal communication between humans.Dancing has evolved many styles. Breakdancing and Krumping are related to the hip hop culture. Ballet, Ballroom, Waltz, and Tango are classical styles of dance while Square Dance and the Electric Slide are forms of step dances.

Literature is the art of written work.

The four major classifications of literature are poetry, prose, fiction, and non-fiction.

Sculpture is three-dimensional artwork created by shaping or combining hard materials: stone, metal, glass, wood .Materials may be worked by removal such as carving; or they may be assembled such as by welding, hardened such as by firing, or molded or cast.

Graffiti art and other types of street art are graphics and images that are spray-painted or stencilled on publicly viewable walls, buildings, buses, trains, and bridges, usually without permission.

Mass Media

Media are means of global information. They enable us to get to know about what happens in all places in the world .Mass media is media for a large audience.

In the late 20th Century, mass media could be classified into eight mass media industries: books, newspapers, magazines, recordings, radio, movies, television and the internet.

In order of introduction, they are:

Print (books, pamphlets, newspapers, magazines, etc.) from the late 15th century/

Recordings (gramophone records, magnetic tapes, cassettes, cartridges, CDs, DVDs) from the late 19th century./Cinema from about 1900./Radio from about 1910/.Television from about 1950/.Internet from about 1990./Mobile phones from about 2000.

Mass media refers to all media technologies .

Broadcast media (also known as electronic media) transmit their information electronically and comprise of television, film and radio, movies, CDs, DVDs and some other gadgets like cameras or video consoles.

Print media is a means of sending information, such as a newspaper, magazines, brochures, newsletters, books, leaflets and pamphlets.

Magazines are typically published weekly, biweekly, monthly, bimonthly or quarterly, with a date on the cover that is in advance of the date it is actually published. .Magazines fall into two broad categories: consumer magazines and business magazines.

Professions involving mass mediaJournalism is the discipline of collecting, analyzing, verifying and presenting information regarding current events, trends, issues and people.

The news media are those elements of the mass media that focus on delivering news to the general public or a target public. These include print media (newspapers, newsmagazines), broadcast news (radio and television), and more recently the Internet (online newspapers, news blogs, etc.).

New-age Media is mobile phones, computers and Internet .

Outdoor media is a form of mass media which comprises billboards, signs, placards placed inside and outside of commercial buildings,objects like shops,buses, flying billboards , blimps, and skywriting.

Public speaking and event organising can also be considered as a form of mass media.

Television in our life

Television now plays an important role in our life.Television was invented in 1935. After a short period of time it started to be very popular.Every single evening millions of people around the world sit in front of their TV sets. For many of us television became the main source of entertainment. Most kids, when they go home from school, start watching TV. When an adult is tired after work, he or she may consider TV the best way to relax. It is difficult to say if it is good or bad for us. It is clear, that television has advantages and disadvantages.

But are there more advantages than disadvantages? In the first place, television is an entertainment. But it is not only a convenient entertainment. For a family of three, four or five, for example, it is more convenient and less expensive to sit comfortably at home than to go out to find entertainment in other places. They don't have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre or cinema. They turn on the TV-set and can watch interesting films, concerts, football matches.

But some people think that it's bad to watch TV. Those who watch TV need do nothing. We are passive when we watch TV. Television shows us many interesting programmes. But again there is a disadvantage here: we watch TV every evening, and it begins to dominate our lives.

My friend told me that when his TV-set broke down, he and his family found that they had more time to do things and to talk to each other. There are other arguments for and against television.

Very often the programmes are bad. Sometimes they show too much violence in films and news programmes. What is your opinion?
