Maps in the networks of the Internet

In today's world is much cheaper to place a color map in the "Internet" than to print it out on paper. If we take into account the cost of distribution of the traditional cartographic production, the economic benefit becomes apparent. This is one of the reasons that in the near future "Internet" will be, probably, the main channel of cartographic communication, the primary means of interaction between the creation 'and consumers' cards.

All of them can be divided into four broad categories:

1) static geoimages (maps and atlases,obtained by scanning a printed or handwritten originals);

2) interactive geoimages are compiled and updated by users' requests;

3) animation, movies, multimedia geoimages;

4) geoimages in GIS.

The main thematic groups of cards in the "Internet" are:

- Survey reference maps;

- Weather maps and dangerous weather phenomena

tions;

- Navigation and transportation maps, travel conditions on the roads;

- Maps of environmental risks and natural disasters;

- Map of current political events, hot spots, etc .;

- Cards for tourism, recreation, travel.

They all meet the specific objectives, and above

search all relevant background information.

According to some estimates, the bulk of cards in the "Internet" make weather maps, and the second in frequency of occurrence - maps of cities and highways. But there are many geoimages oriented and specialized application on professional interests

users (for example, different time plans, maps,

pictures of cities,). Finally, a special group of geoimages for educational purposes, containing material for various educational

nym courses, instruction, exercises.

Conclusion

So, if you think about the maps of the future, it seems, it will be "reasonable image" (Intelligent Images), synthesizing information from different sources quoted in computer networks in real time and with variable resolution. This opinion was expressed recently by L. Jordan, president of one of America's leading companies for the development of GIS [5]. The user will be able to work with such geo images and interactively navigate through them in either direction in two, three or four measurements.
