My working day*

I am a full-time student; it means I attend classes, lectures and seminars every day. Every day arrives and ends in a similar way. I get up early in the morning. My college starts at 8 o'clock, so I have my breakfast at 6.30 to be in time for classes. I have 2 double-periods and then during a long forty minute break I go to the canteen to have my midday meal. At our college classes are over at 2.20 in the afternoon. I am in the habit of doing my homework at home, so I try to hurry up to my place as soon as possible. When I come home, I have a short rest and then I begin doing my homework. It takes me about two or three hours to complete it. I live with my parents and have my dinner in the family circle. Twice a week in evening I go to play tennis. When I don’t go to play tennis, I stay home and watch TV, listen to the music, read magazines. Sometimes my friends call me out and we go for a walk. At eleven o'clock, tired after a long working day, I go to bed and in some minutes I fall asleep. On a day off I wake up later than usual, at about 10 o’clock. I don’t get up at once. I like to stay in bed for a while and think about something nice. I like to have something very delicious for breakfast on such days. Sometimes I do something special on weekends: go to an art exhibition, to the theatre, to the concert. I always go to bed late on Sundays, and Monday morning is the nastiest thing of all the week.

Grammar. The gerund

A gerund is a noun made from a verb. To make a gerund, you add "-ing" to the verb.

Examples of gerunds: buying, fishing, running, watching, telling, and so forth.

Gerunds are often used when actions are real or completed:

She stopped smoking.

I finished doing my homework.

John completed fixing the car.

The job involves dealing with animals.

We started working on this yesterday.
