Idiomatic Expressions
English as well as Russian has got a great variety of idiomatic expressions. Idiomatic phrases and expressions sometimes create difficultness as a dictionary becomes inefficient to understand the meaning. A large number of idiomatic expressions came into English, as well as Russian, from history and traditions. For example, the idiomatic expression ‘to have school ties’ means ‘to know some influential people who can give support’. Therefore, a good student should realize the importance of idiomatic expressions and study them respectively.
Memorize the following idiomatic expressions and use them in your sentences.
milk for babies – simple and easy to understand;
milk and roses – healthy
milk and honey – luxury, abundance;
to milk a company – to make profitable business by selling shares and stocks
to milk the bull – to do business in vain
milk and water – silly
Exercise № 30. Translate sentences into English.

Exercise № 31. Word game.

Role game: Writing practice in present tenses.
Imagine that you are a captain of a ship that is forwarding to the Russian colonies in America. Make a list of goods and products to supply colonists.
Unit Three. American Revolution.
As the American colonies developed, it ignited a series of conflicts with Britain. The “mother” country most definitely was not interested in tolerating such an independent policy of the young thirteen colonies. Britain wanted to use the American colonies as the source of natural resources, cheap labor and the consumer market for their goods. The conflict of interests waged the war. That was the time of American patriotism which eventually led to independence.
