V. Turn the following into the Simple Past Tense.

1.This seem quite easy. 2. He never meets the customers at the restaurant. 3. Our boss doesn’t like to have talks on Friday. 4. That sounds funny. 5. The students go to the classs every week-day. 6. I often see aeroplanes flying over my house. 7. I can see the aeroplane in the sky. 8. The students are in Mr. Brown’s study. 9. We understand the story quite well. 10. The children eat too many ices. 11. This artist draws very good pictures. 12. Nancy never drinks tea in the morning. 13. It is not often that Roger goes to a business trip. 14. That is what the boss says. 15. She goes to Paris for her new dresses. 16. You do that work very well. 17. Jan thinks a lot about his project. 18. I know the answer to your question. 19. They understand everything that we say to them. 20. I believe what you tell me. 21 He can’t understand what you say. 22. George pays ten pounds and he gets a good suit. 23. I see the trees of Hyde Park when I go to the window and look through it.

VI.Open the brackets using the verbs in Past Simple. Compare the usage of Present Simple and Past Simple.

The past progressive tense.

I.Read and translate the following sentences. Put questions to them.

1.It was snowing when he went out. 2.It was night. The stars were sparkling. 3.What were you reading on holidays? – I wasn’t reading anything, I was enjoying my time. 4.They were constantly leaving their teacups unwashed! 5.After an hour’s sleep I was feeling much better. 6.While Grandma was making tea in the kitchen, her grandson ate the last piece of cake. 7.It was December. Christmas was coming. 8.Chuck was having a lesson of English at six yesterday. 9.While Jess was translating letters, I was studying the latest catalogues. 10.When I came to the office, everybody was busy: Nick was looking through a price-list, Perry was typing something, Don and Bob were discussing terms of shipment and delivery, Lora was looking through the window.
