Metal Content of Igneous Rocks

There is no doubt the fact that all igneous rocks include metals. Metals are any of a number of chemical elements, such as iron or copper, that are often lustrous ductile solids, have basic oxides, form positive ions, and are good conductors of heat and electricity. Iron, for instance, is present in every igneous rock in considerable quantity. Manganese is found in most igneous rocks in significant amounts as well. With reference to the rarer metals, they are naturally not present in sizeable amounts. Nonetheless, chemists have established the presence of copper, lead, nickel, zinc and tin in nearly every kind of igneous rock. Metals are generally found in the capacity of dark-coloured silicates constituents. Even the rarest metals, such as silver, platinum, and gold, likewise occur in some rocks, though in small quantities. The widespread metals occur in igneous rocks in the sulphides and oxides form. The quantities of metals in sedimentary rocks are smaller than those in the igneous rocks.
