Omission of ‘if’
‘If’ can be omitted in ‘if-clauses’. In this case ‘should’ in conditionals type I, ‘were’ in conditionals type II and ‘had’ in conditionals type III come before the subject. Should he win the race, he’ll be very happy. (= If he should win) Were I you, I wouldn’t tell him. (= If I were you) Had I known the truth, I’d have called the police. (= If I had known) |
