Warm up

Phonetic exercise

Students revise homophones. First, students listen to the word pairs, the, they repeat them. The teacher gives the definitions of the homophones if it is necessary. The pairs of the words are on the black­board (or in the handouts);

Students exchange of valentines, read them, and the teacher dis­plays the students’ works.

Introducing the topic

The teacher continues the topic of the previous lesson. First, stu­dents look throw the words in the box (ex. 5, p. 175). They clear up the definitions of unknown words in the text-book vocabulary, make sen­tences with these words and listen to the dialogue.

Listening

Students complete the dialogue with the words and answer the questions.

Answers: 1 the party; 2 a great time; 3 costumes; 4 funny; 5 games; 6 the floor; 7 food; 8 lemonade; 9 join.

What the holiday are children celebrating? Why do you think so?Speaking

The teacher divides students into pairs. Students read the task to ex. 6, p. 176 about imaginary situation. They have to act out this situ­ation, ask and answer the questions using ex. 5 as the example.

Relaxation

The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:

I can show you my face Where everything is on it’s place With my nose I can smell Many objects very well.

With my eyes I look around,

Watch my feet and stamp the ground.

With my ear I can hear What my friend is doing near.

With my mouth I can eat Everything that’s very sweet.

Reading. Writing

Students read ex. 8, p. 176. Their task is to read the text and say what traditions Ukrainians have on this holiday. Are English traditions similar to Ukrainian ones?

Students have to revise verbs tense form. They write the text and put the verbs in brackets into the correct form.

Answers: 1 wanted; 2 asked; 3 said; 4 were; 5 Is; 6 was; 7 opened; 8 screamed; 9 danced; 10 was.

Homework

To write a story about the best students’ presents for Christ­mas/New Year.

The teacher can use ex. 1, p. 177. Students are divided on four groups, read the questions and answer them in turn. Then, students choose a slip of paper with the name of one of the holidays. They have to describe some traditions starting like this:

and toys. We place a green tree in our flat etc.

Other students have to guess what the holiday is. One correct ans­wer is one score.
