Landmarks

Aims and objectives: to practise students' speaking skills; to practise students' listening skills; to practise pronunciation and vocabulary; to develop ge­neral culture and etiquette of speech.

SEQUENCE

Warm up

The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I’m glad to see you. How are you?

Phonetic exercise

Students revise pronunciation of -ght. If the teacher uses individual cards, students have to underline the words with the similar sounds, the listen to the rhyme and repeat it. If the teacher writes the rhyme on the blackboard, students first read these words, then listen to the rhyme and repeat it.

Star Light Star bright,

The first star I see tonight,

I wish I may, I wish I might,

Have the wish I wish tonight.

Checking on homework

Students, in pairs act out their dialogues.

Introducing the topic

To present the topic of the lesson the teacher draw students’ atten­tion to the pictures (ex. 1, p. 154-155). Then, students listen to the text (dialogue).

After listening, students have to find information about each of the pictures.

Reading

Students read the text and correct their mistakes if it’s necessary.

After-reading activity. To practise students’ abilities to find out de­tails of the text, they do ex. 2, p. 155 and tick the true (T) and false (F) statements. Then, correct the false statements.

Answers: 1 T; 2 F; З T; 4 T; 5 F; 6 T.Relaxation

The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:

Writing

Students look through the dialogue and complete the table (ex. 3, p. 155) with phrases or words.

Students read the task to ex. 4, p. 155 and do exercise in their exercise-books. They have to use words and expressions from the previ­ous exercise to make the sentences about the difference between a life in a town (city) and a village.

Homework

Ex. 5, ex. 6, p. 156.

Summary and feedback

The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students’ feedback.

Museums and Exhibitions

Aims and objectives: to practise vocabulary; to practise Simple Tenses and Present Continuous; to develop students' listening and speaking skills; to develop general culture; to develop students' creativity.

Warm up

The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I’m glad to see you. How are you?Phonetic exercise

Students revise sound [r]. Students listen to the rhyme and repeat it. The rhyme is on the blackboard (or in the handouts):

Rainbow to windward,

Foul fall the day.

Rainbow to leeward,

Rain runs away.

Checking on homework

The teacher checks reading aloud, and students’ answers the questions.

Introducing the topic

Before presentation the topic, the teacher proposes students to look through the words in the box (ex. 1, p. 156) and mark unknown words and phrases. Then the teacher explains them. Students have to say no less than one sentence with the words.

Students read the text about the Museum of History and Arts and do the grammar part of work: put the verbs into the correct forms (ex. 2, p. 156-157).

Answers: 1 has become; 2 has; 3 call; 4 has appeared; 5 came; 6 opened; 7 grew; 8 expanded; 9 became; 10 go.

Relaxation

The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:

Little Robin Redbreast flew upon a wall,

Pussy cat jumped after him, and almost got a fall!

Little Robin chirped and sang, and what did pussy say?

Pussy cat said, “Mew”, and Robin flew away.

Listening. Reading

Students listen to the dialogue (ex. 3, p. 157), then read it, mark the verbs in the Present Continuous and act out the dialogue. They may use the text-books while acting.

Speaking

The teacher divides students into three groups. Students in groups, have to make a list of the vocabulary words. Then, each group writes the words on the blackboard. The winner has the longest (and cor­rect) list.The teacher rearranges students into pairs. Their task is to talk with the partner about a place to visit. They may use the words at the blackboard and the points of discussion from ex. 4, p. 157. Then, stu­dents show their dialogues (selectively).

Homework

Ex. 6, p. 158.

The teacher summarizes the work by asking for students’ feedback.
