Lesson 17 Fashion and Clothes

Aims and objectives: to practise vocabulary and pronunciation; to practise students' listening and speaking skills; to develop skills of giving opinions; to develop tolerance to others.

Warm up

The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I’m glad to see you. How are you?

Phonetic exerciser

Students read ex. 3, p. 40 and find out what sounds are: [і] or [ai], [ae ] or [h:], and [u:].

Checking on homework

Students read the text one by one and check their answers.

Answers:

  1. a) jacket; b) trousers; c) uniform; d) pocket; e) school; f) shirt;

  1. badge.

  1. a) dress; b) socks; c) socks; d) shoes; e) sandals; f) uniform; g) hat.

Game

The aim of this game is to revise names of clothes, verbs of the topic (to put on, to dress, to pull off, to lace up, to unlace, to zip, to unzip, to take off, to fasten, to unfasten, to button up, to unbutton) and Present Continuous. Teacher asks students “What am I doing?” and mime ei­ther putting on or pulling off, or something else items of clothes. Stu­dents try to guess and say. The first student answering right changes the teacher etc.

Introducing the topic

Teacher explains the aims of the lesson, and then he gives students the dialogue (ex. 1, p. 39) to listen and to read it. Students have to agree or disagree with the statements and ground their opinion.

Speaking

Work in pairs. Students read the task (ex. 2, p. 40) and act out a dia­logue using the words from the box. Teacher explains definitions of the words if it’s necessary. Students describe their partners’ clothes using the examples.

Relaxation

The teacher makes movements with the students. The teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:

I am a tree in the wood.

I swing in the wind.

My hands are the leaves.

They fall from the tree.

How so fly they float

From the top of the tree.

Writing. Speaking

Work in whole class. Teacher shows students the pictures (ex. 4, p. 40) and asks what is wrong with clothes. Students remember phrasesГґоііі Phonetic exercise and use them to say about pictures. They ask nu ll other rippling down the chain and write down their answers on the blackboard and into the exercise books.

Homework

Ex. 5, p. 41; to learn the phrases ex. 3, p. 40.

Summary

T. What can you say about your clothes? Look at yourself and say. Students’ answers.

Lesson 18 My Favourite Clothes Style

Aims and objectives: to practise vocabulary and Past Simple; to develop students' speaking skills; to develop general culture; to develop students' creativity.

Warm up

The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I’m glad to see you. How are you?

Phonetic exercise

Students revise sound [v]. The twister is on the blackboard (or in the handouts):

Checking on homework

Students present their works and describe situations and a person’s clothes.

Introducing the topic

Teacher explains the aims of the lesson, and then lie gives students the dialogue (ex. 1, p. 41) to listen it. Students have to complete the compliments and ground their opinion.Ann. Hi, Jane!

Jane. Hi! Nice to see you!

Ann. You look so trendy today!

Jane. Oh, thank you. This is my new jumper.

A n n. I took notice of your new clothes. It’s really cool! But why is it blue?

Jane. I like light blue colour and it matches to my eyes.

Ann. Don’t be offended! Your jumper is nice.

Jane. I’m not offended. I liked my old sweater, but it is too small.

A n n. What a pity! That was so comfortable thing.

Jane. That’s why I bought the new jumper.

Ann. And that was a good choice! I love your taste!

Speaking

Work in whole class/in pairs. Students have to say compliments to the classmates about their clothes using ex. 1, p. 41.

Teacher divides students into pairs, and they have to ask and answer the questions in the table (ex. 3, p. 42), then present their dia­logues to the class.

Relaxation

The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:

I can walk on tip, tip, toe Like a fairy I can go.

I can stamp so that you’ll say An elephant is here today.

Writing. Reading

T. Imagine you are going on a school trip with your classmates. Now you are helping to your mum to pack your clothes. First, write a list of clothing, then write where you are going, what the season is

Students use the table from ex. 5, p. 42. After writing, students read their works to the class.

Homework

Ex. 6, p. 42-43.
