Lesson 13 Season Clothes

Aims and objectives: to present vocabulary about clothes and accessories; to practise the use of pronouns "this/these", “that/those"; to consolidate vocabulary and grammar material; to develop skills of giving opinions.

Warm up

The teacher's greeting. Good morning, students! I’m glad to see you. How are you?

Phonetic exercise

eacher prepares computer presentation or individual cards. If it’s presentation teacher works with whole class, if these are cards students do their tasks individually. The task is to guess rebuses and say the answers with pronouns “this” and “these”.

Introducing the topic

Presentation of vocabulary. Students write them into vocabularies:

  • A hat — ['haet] — капелюх

  • An umbrella — [лт'ЬгеІо] — парасолька

  • A bag (a handbag) — ['(h£end)baeg] — жіноча сумка

  • A headscarf — f'hedskaif] — хустка

  • A belt — [’belt] — ремінь

  • A cane — ['kem] — ціпок

  • A tie — ['tai] — краватка

  • A cravat — [kro'vaet] — краватка, шийна хустина

  • Gloves — ['glAvz] — рукавички

  • Mittens — ['mit(0)nz] — рукавиці o Glasses — ['gla:siz] — окуляри

  • Bracelet — [’breislit] — браслет

Students look at the pictures (ex. 1, p. 30) and describe people’s clothes as it is an example.

Reading

Intensive reading. (Ex. 2, p. 30). Students have to read the text. Be­fore reading they get to know what sentences are missing in the text (parts A to F).

Answers: 1 hot weather; 2 from the sun; 3 to keep us cool; 4 our feet getting hot; 5 cold and snowy outside; 6 a cloudy and rainy day.

Teacher asks the questions to the text (to the whole class), and stu­dents answers.

  1. Why do we choose the clothes every day?

  2. Why do we change our clothes during a day?

  3. Can we wear sandals and flip-flops in winter?

  4. Do you wear jeans and trainers to a theatre? Why yes or not?

Relaxation

The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:

Hands on your hips,

Hands on your knees,

Put them behind you,

If you please.

Touch your shoulders,

Touch your nose,

Touch your ears,

Touch your toes.

Speaking

Work in class. Students read the statements (ex. 4, p. 31) and agree or disagree with them. Each of the students has to think of these state­ments and says his/her own opinion proving the mind.

Homework

Ex. 5, p. 31-32, to learn the words.

Summary

Please, tell me what things we can call with pronounces “this/these”? “that/those”? Give me examples.

Game "An Odd Word"

Teacher gives students the cards with the row of the words (one card to each student). The task is to read the words, find an odd word and explain why.

Teacher presents the vocabulary of the lesson (ex. 1, p. 32). Stu­dents describe each person’s clothes as it is in the example and do ex. 2, p. 33.

Listening. Reading

Students listen to the text, and then read it. After reading they have to do the task: tick the statements A, B, or both (ex. 3, p. 33-34).

Relaxation

The teacher makes movements with the students. Teacher uses any rhyme for physical exercises. For example:

Raise your hands, high in the air,

At your sides, on your hair.

I turn myself around.

I raise my hands above my head And then I touch the ground.

Speaking

Teacher divides students into three groups. Teacher gives students some questions for discussion (ex. 4, p. 34), and students discuss them. Then each group expresses its opinion. Teacher sums up the results.
