Teacher: Take the duster. Misha, write the date on the blackboard. Misha: There is no chalk. I cannot write the date without chalk. Teacher: No, you can't. Take a piece of chalk. Now, supposing you want to drink tea and you can't. Why? Jane: We can't drink tea without water. Misha: We can't drink tea without a cup. Pavel: I can't drink tea without a spoon. Olya: I can't drink tea without a saucer. Kolya: I can't drink tea without sugar.

Ребята поняли смысл игры, теперь можно устроить состязание между командами: кто окажется изобретательней.

Teacher: People can't live without... Team "A" Team "B" Katya: People can't live without air. Andrei: People can't live without fire. Victor: People can't live without water. Masha: People can't live without houses. Kolya: People can't live without food. Pavel: People can't live without schools. Jane: Pupils can't live without teachers.

Состояние и настроение учеников влияют на успех обучения. А их настроение зависит иногда даже от дня недели. Для этой игры можно выбрать субботу. Учащиеся (и не только они) устали. Что их может подбодрить? Наверно, мысли о выходном. Teacher: What day is it today? ... Yes, quite right, it's Saturday. The last working day of the week, but tomorrow... tomorrow is Sunday. And what is Sunday?

Katya: Sunday is no school.

Так начинается игра: настоящее диктует будущее. Ученики продолжают реплики учителя. Для составления предложений учащиеся могут использовать таблицу с формами будущего времени.

Постепенно ученики легче справляются с задачей, и можно ввести в игру мяч: произнося фразу-стимул, учитель бросает мяч ученику, который должен немедленно вернуть мяч и при этом ответить. Такой прием обостряет реакцию и ускоряет темп речи. На следующем этапе учитель выходит из игры, и разговор продолжается между учениками. Katya: Misha, I see many books in your school-bag. Misha: I shall go to the library. Jane, you read many books on nature. Jane: I shall become an agronomist. Victor, Andrei is again absent. Victor: I shall go and see him today.

За каждое правильное предложение давалось одно очко.

Игра « What? Why? When?» Данная игра улучшает понимание различия между двумя настоящими временами Continuous и Indefinite. Суть: создать ситуацию, где бы наглядно ощущалась эта разница? Teacher: Katya, what am I doing? Katya: Ah, again you are picking flowers. (Катя, конечно, вспомнила, как недавно учитель пригласил их всех в «поле» собирать цветы, и готова была снова пойти ему на помощь. Учитель же не торопясь, с удовольствием «собирал цветы» и продолжал беседу.) Teacher: Yes,again. And why? Katya:Because you like them. Teacher: Yes,very.And what season is it? Lena: It is summer. Teacher: Why do you think it is summer? Andrei: Because flowers grow in summer. Итак, опять игра, построенная на театрализации. Играть (изображать действие) и при этом вести параллельно беседу – всегда очень трудно для учителя. Но трудности окупаются результатом. Со времени ребята сами начинают играть маленькие этюды, а учитель принимает роль регулятора, обращая внимание учеников на разницу в употреблении двух временных форм. Pavel is washing. Teacher: What is Pavel doing? Andrei:He is washing. Teacher: What time of the day is it? Masha: It is morning because people always wash in the morning. Oleg: It is morning because Pavel is washing his neck, and we wash our necks in the morning. Ann is eating. Teacher: What is she doing? Jane: She is eating. Teacher:What time of the day is it? Lena: It is afternoon. She is eating soup and people eat soup in the afternoon.
