Town or Country?

Today many people are moving out of small villages to live in big, noisy cities. They are moving from the peaceful hills, mountains, fields, rivers and streams of the country-side to the busy world of streets, buildings, traffics and crowds. But living in the city, just like living in the country, has its advantages and disadvantages.

There are a lot of interesting things to do and places to see in the city. You can eat in good restaurants, visit museums and go to the theatres and cinemas. You can hardly find the same opportunities in the village. But if you have a low-paid job you can’t afford many things, because living in the city is expensive. Surely, it is easier to find work in a city – in village there are less vacancies. You don’t need a car in the city, because there is a great choice of public transport, but it is often crowded and dirty. Last of all, despite all the crowds, it is still possible to feel lonely in a city. Villages are usually characterized by communities, where everyone knows each other.

The city life can be attractive to young people, who like the excitement of the city and don’t mind the noise and pollution. However, many people, when they get older, and particularly when they have young children, often prefer the peace and fresh air of the countryside.
