14.4 Complete and translate the following sentences using the terminology from previous text and the word list (14.6)
Usually metal spans are erected from (типовые балки) or (типовые решетчатые фермы). The length of a standard girder is 55 m, and of a unified through truss it is between 33 and 132 m. Both structures may be (Металлические балки) are lighter than those made out of reinforced concrete, and may be mounted by one or two (кран). When a girder is 55 m long, the builders cut it into four blocks to facilitate its delivery to the (строительная площадка). They may also build a temporary pier in the middle of the span. The cranes place the blocks on (временная опора и постоянная опора) where they (соединяться) by high strength bolts.
Standard trusses consist of separate elements: top and bottom chords, A part of the span is mounted on temporary piers built under the (узлы фермы). Three or four segments are used as a (противовес) for further span erection. A (деррик-кран) moves along the mounted top chord using the cantilevering method. The truss joint elements are joined by (болты, фасонки, накладки) and other flat elements. Continuous metal girders are pushed towards the designed position with a (домкрат) like reinforced concrete beams.
The construction of a bridge superstructure above water is one of the erection methods. The superstructure blocks, delivered to the riverbank by special heavy trucks, are transhipped to the (баржа) with special equipment, and a barge carries the structures to the place.
14.5 Translate the following sentences into English
2. Пролётное строение собирается (to construct) на берегу и надвигается (to push) в проектное положение (final position) домкратами (jack) по направлению продольной оси моста (along the bridge axis).
3. Когда береговая (riverside) часть пролёта не может уравновесить (counterbalance) свисающую часть (cantilever arm), к ней присоединяют (to attach to the tip of) аванбек. Он касается (to reach) следующей (neighboring) опоры раньше, чем опасные напряжения в балке (negative bending moment) смогут её сломать (to break).
– на опоре строго по оси (completely endwise) устанавливают (to place) первый опорный («корневой») блок (stub);
– к нему с обеих сторон (on both sides) последовательно (sequentially) присоединяют блоки (to adjust). С обеих сторон опоры образуются консоли строго одинаковой длины (exactly even length) - «птички» (“wings” - cantilever arms extended on both sides from one stub);
- передвижку (shifting) и закрепление (attaching to the cantilever tip) лёгких поддерживающих передвижных подмостей (travelling shuttering);
- установку (attaching) съёмной (adjustable) щитовой опалубки (shuttering in which new segments are cast) и арматуры;
- укладку бетонной смеси (concrete placement against formwork);
- твердение (hardening of concrete) и обжатие бетона напрягаемой арматурой (transferring stress from the reinforcing steel to the concrete).
10. Бетонирование секций выполняют одновременно от обеих сторон опоры к серединам смежных пролетов (proceeding symmetrically on either side of the support towards midspan), как при навесной сборке.
