The medical students have much practical training. They have the first six week practical training at the end of the third year. They will have to work as nurses and learn to take temperature, give injections, take blood pressure, feel the pulse, give administered drugs and care after patients. After the fourth year students will have another practical training for eight weeks. They can work as assistants of the doctors under the supervision of expert physicians at the therapeutic, surgical, obstetrical and other departments. They will be able to learn to examine patients, to read laboratory findings and case-histories, to make diagnoses, to manage patients, to control symptoms, to administer treatment and prescribe drugs and so on. After the 5-th year they will have a six-week practical training in the out-patient departments. In the 6-th year the students will be able to gain extra experience in one of three main clinical subjects: Therapy, Surgery or Obstetrics and Gynecology. And as for the future Pediatricians they will be able to understand the physical, mental and social development of children. They must know more about how children grow and behave and how to prevent diseases and care after Mother and child. This period is called Subinternship. After graduation from the Medical Department the young specialists may select a medical specialty, receive further training as a resident or a post-graduate student, or begin to work in the hospital or polyclinic.
