Prominent Figures of Our Village

The village Rakiv-Lis is famous for its industrious people. The most outstanding and authoritative people of our village are well-known in our district and region teachers of our schools O.P.Kusmych, V.Y.Vaskovets, V.M.Borsuk. Our countryman Sus Victor Ivanovich is the head of our district administration. He often visits and helps his countrymen. Our countrymen work in different spheres. Many of them choose a profession of a doctor, economist, lawyers Stephan Olexiyovich Karpik is famous for his compassion to Jewish family. During the war when fascists occupied our village he hid for 11 months this family in his cellar. The family survived and grateful Jewess conferred Karpik Stephan by the certificate of respect and medals. His name is carving on the wall of crying in Jerusalem. In 1995 the family of Holstain invited the Karpik’s family to guest them. Denisiuk Volodymyr Yakovych is a prominent countryman. He graduated from the Moscow University named by Lomonosow. He is candidate of physic-mathematic sciences. He works in a space branch. Nina Romaniuk is a deserved journalist of Ukraine. The actual and absorbing articles in newspapers: “Ukraina Moloda”, Viche” are published by our compatriot. Satsyk.V.I is an instructor of Kyiv National Economic University. He is candidates of economic sciences. Our compatriots work very hard in collective firmest “Pershe Travnia”. They grow flax, corn and potatoes. F.O.Spiruk, I.A.Tkach, I.S.Muts, H.D.Nischyk became famous for their valiant work. They were rewarded by orders and medals. The people of our village respect their compatriot builder-contractor Mytchyk Serhiy. He offers a job for his compatriots because there are 139 unemployed men. He built a modern shop “Vechirniy Kyiv”.

The Modern Condition

Our village is one of the biggest villages in Volyn region. The houses in the village are comfortable and tidy. There are 999 yards and 1054 families. All homes have a natural gas. More than ten young families build their own dwelling every year. 110 kids visit kindergarten which was opened in 1987. The building of culture was built in 1977. The country library has 12 thousands books. The first –aid post was built in 1983. The Eternal Glory memorial complex in a form of obelisk with a statue of soldier who takes a sward was built in 1970. The author of this complex is Sadovskiy. In distance of 8 meters there is a stele with a head of women bearing such words:-“Mother waits, waits her soldier, but he sleeps in an everlasting sleep”. Selfless struggle of those who fought against the Nasy invaders will never be effaced from the people’s memory.

Four religious communities are officially registered in our village. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church and three Protestant- oriented Churches such as: the church of the Seventh day Adventists, The Ukrainian Unions of the Evangelical Baptist-Christians and Evangelical Faith Christians. All of them have their own houses of prayer. The protestant communities are closely connected with the centers abroad for the most part in America. Some of them are moving to America for the permanent living. Every summer some members of the Evangelical Baptist Christians are baptized with water in the lake which called Sviate.

Our village will be a town near-by future. Talented youth which studies at different Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine will return for sure to their own village, their everlasting motherland. They will glorify their motherland by their knowledge and creation.
