3. Read the text «My duties about the house», make up some questions concerning it and let other students answer them.
One of my duties at home is washing up. I do it every morning and every
evening with pleasure. We don’t usually have many dirty dishes but if we have parties, my parents help me.
On Saturdays my mother and I go to the market to do shopping. We buy a lot of tasty things and ripe fruit. Especially I love doing shopping in spring and summer when our local market looks like an eastern bazaar as we can find a lot of different fruit and vegetables all over the market. My mother enjoys choosing what to buy, as for me I am crazy of making good bargains. The atmosphere is friendly and exciting. After doing shopping we usually have a cup of strong tea and eat ice – cream. The only thing I can’t stand for is carrying heavy bags.
One of my obligatory duties is tidying up my room. It’s not very large that’s why it doesn’t take me much time to do it. I usually clean windows, dust the furniture, wash the floor, water the flowers and clean the carpet with vacuum cleaner.
Read the text “A HOME IN ENGLAND”. Make up a situation of your own, use the words and word combinations from the text and retell it.
A home in england
1. Mr. Brown lives in England. He works in London and lives in one of the suburbs. He catches the morning train up to town and comes back in the evening.
2. Like most English houses in suburbs Mr. Brown’s is of two storeys: the ground floor and the first floor. Englishmen always say upstairs and downstairs. The living – room and the kitchen are downstairs. The bedroom, the nursery and the bathroom are upstairs. The living – room is the room where the Browns receive visitors. The ceiling is only about ten feet high, as is usual in England. In England they must keep their houses warm for most of the year, so nearly all ceilings are low.
3. There is a garden around the house. The front garden consists of the grass lawn with flower – beds around. They are very pretty in spring and summer.
Mr. Brown is very proud of his front garden. In the back garden the Browns grow vegetables. At the back of the house there are some tall trees, they are about eighty years old. The house and the garden look very pretty.
