17) Prototype. Methods of imagination.
The basis of an artistic image can be a real person or a literary personage, which is called the prototype. The real prototype and the image never coincide. The prototype bears particular individual features of the definite individual. The image is a personage somehow similar to the prototype but always bears some generalization, imaginary characteristics and it has aesthetic value. A writer in order to create image always involves his imagination and fantasy, his ability to recreate the material of author’s perception through his consciousness, to create on this basis the new visual images. Imagination finds expression in an ideal form of human needs, aspirations, emotions and dreams. Imagination by its nature is figurative, productive, free. Its figurative and expressive techniques in the art are reduced to the methods of the imagination: accentuation and combining.
18) The figurative and expressive methods of imagination: accentuation and combining.
Imagination by its nature is figurative, productive, free. Its figurative and expressive techniques in the art are reduced to the methods of the imagination: accentuation and combining. Accentuation is the selection, condensation, exaggeration. Combination assumes connection, synthesis of diverse elements into a new artistic structure (the centaur, sphinx).
19) The artistic image /character/type. Give characteristics.
The artistic image, as well as whole literary work, is the result of consecutive stages of creative act: selection, evaluation, generalization, artistic realization. On the other hand, the artistic image is the result of dialectic unity of typical and individual. The type (a print, the form, the sample) is the concept designating the generalized image of human individuality definite in its society and at its time. Character in literature is a complete image of the person, character in life is an individual and specific combination of essential and steady characteristics of the personality appearing in behavior of the person, in his relation to people, to the world as a whole. The type bears in itself the most essential traits of character or the public phenomenon. Character is a combination of individual traits of the personality and its essential sides. The image –is expressive, that is it expresses the ideological and emotional relation of the author to a subject, it is turned not only to mind, but also to feelings of the reader.
20) What is an artistic detail? Types of details.
The detail is the smallest unit of the material world of a literary work, it is an important means of artistic individualization. Its importance in the creation of a literary image is concretization of depicted picture. Details are narrative, descriptive and psychological. The detail can be symbolic or to be closer to a sign.
21) Character and personage in a literary work. The differences.
Time plays an active formative role in the creation of image system. The power of time forms and promote imaginary units that are nominated, combined and recognized from each other. The products of their relationship become images - characters who are the subjects of action, emotions, expressions in a literary work, they imprint some public features and from the other side they are artistic images. Not all personages have character, that is strong will. Character - is the inner personalization of personage.
