The main purpose of discipline is: the development of theoretical knowledge that includes the system of concepts and terms necessary for the further study of the history of literature and folklore; study the scientific principles of analysis of a literary work . The objectives of discipline are: to reveal the specificity of literature as a form of social consciousness and as an art form, to reveal the peculiarities of form and content of a literary work, to study the basic laws of historical development of literature, to learn the basic information about the nature, peculiarities and social - aesthetic significance of artistic literature.
2) What studies discipline "Literary Study"?
Literary Study is the science that studies the specificity, genesis and development of verbal - artistic creativity, explores the ideological and aesthetic values and the structure of literary works, as well as social and historical laws of the literary process of the past and present. The subject of Literary Study is a set of literary phenomena; their diversity can be understood and ordered by the concept of classification. Literature in general is the element of a super system, in the context of which a literary phenomenon is interrelated with reality, writer and receptor (reader).
3) What are the components of literary phenomenon?
Any literary phenomenon is an element of the system, associated with all other elements and loses its specificity in isolated form without system. There are 3 basic types of literary phenomena: 1. Literary creativity as a special kind of spiritual activity of a man; 2. A literary work as a dialectical unity of form and content, an art model of reality in the terms of verbal and imaginative expression; 3. Literary process as sequence of the literary phenomena submitting to the laws of literary development.

Literary History and Literary Criticism provides an analysis and evaluation of specific literary phenomena, referring mainly to their qualitative aspect. Literary Criticism evaluates literary phenomenon, gives recommendation to the writer, educates the reader and in appropriate way forms public opinion.
