Many people believe that being a teacher is an easy task and any person can become a teacher. But experience has shown that not everyone is capable of being a good teacher. There are many personality traits and qualities that are required to be an effective teacher. Good teachers are likely made up of a combination of hundreds of qualities that allow them do their job effectively. Each teacher is different, but virtually every good teacher should have following qualities: Optimism is a trait that should become more common, judging by Winston Churchill’s famous quote that “a pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.” If you are excited to come to class and try out something new, many of the students will be too. Optimistic teachers should have great hope and confidence in their students and set high expectations and watched their students succeed. A good teacher should be determined. Determined – Finding any means necessary to reach all students no matter the challenge. Teachers must be willing to do anything to ensure that all students receive the education they need. Cautious (careful) – Going the extra mile to ensure that every student is successful no matter what. A teacher must figure out the personalities and interest of each student and incorporate components that connect with each individual. Positive - Coming to class each day in a good mood, excited, and enthusiastic about doing your job, having patience and a good sense of humour. If the teacher has a lousy attitude, the students are going to have lousy attitudes. If the teacher is joyful, the students are going to be joyful. Idealistic teacher expects the best and hopes for the best. An Idealistic person thinks that all things have a positive side, when they don’t. Idealistic person tries to change the way he / she looks at the situation and find the good in it. Being dynamic is hard work. Being dynamic means that you shift and change over time. A good teacher can differentiate their lesson processes to meet the needs of their students. A great teacher should also be sympathetic and relate to how their students feel. Every great teacher is sympathetic with the problems of their students. Sympathy is kindness and understanding. That is why students who have a sympathetic teacher tend to follow in his footstep; they emulate him and show more sympathy towards others. A practical teacher is a person who is level-headed, efficient and realistic. Practical people are characterized by having limited time and resources, tend to have big goals, always look for the shortest path possible and have very high self-esteem. It is a person who uses common sense and logic.
