The Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism was opened in Moscow in 1920. Since its foundation the university has trained more than 17,000 qualified physical culture experts. Today it is a well-known higher educational establishment in our country and abroad. There are some faculties for fulltime students where the specialists in light athletics, gymnastics, swimming, wrest­ling, weightlifting, etc. are trained. As in any other higher educational establishment of our country, the student body of the university is multinational. Many foreign students and post­graduates are studying at the Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism has everything necessary for carrying out an extensive educational programme. There are many professors, assistant professors in the university who engage in research work alongside teaching. Most of the chairs are headed by the prominent scientists who have made considerable contribution to the development of sport in our country. The chairs have modern laboratories for scientific research work. The University has become a centre of scientific work on methods of physical training.

The University has different facilities and equipment for training up top class specialists. The University building con­tains many large lecture rooms, libraries with reading-halls, well-equipped laboratories. There are many gymnasiums, sports grounds at the University.

The students study many subjects during their course of studies at the University, such as anatomy, a foreign language, physiology, pedagogics, specialized subjects. Among the students and graduates of the University we can find many outstanding sportsmen of our country. Some of them are champions and record-holders. They take part in different international competitions and Olympic Games. The Russian State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism has achieved great success and is promoting further development of physical culture and sport in our count­ry.
