COMP1289: 3D Animation
Treatment
This short animation that will last approximately 60 seconds will be titled “Alice in Pixel Land” and is based off a section of Alice in wonderland by Lewis Carroll. The animation style will be different to most animations as it will have a pixelated look, much like the popular game “Minecraft”.
The passage taken off the novel the animation will follow goes as such:
“There were doors all round the hall, but they were all locked; and when Alice had been all the way down one side and up the other, trying every door, she walked sadly down the middle, wondering how she was ever to get out again.”
“Alice in pixel land” will primarily be aimed at young and teenage females who are keen fans of the story and follow the movies by Disney.
The one and only character in this short animation will be Alice herself. Unlike the passage however, where it’s set inside in a corridor, this animation will be set out side in a field surrounded by mountains with doors all around and one big pathway that leads up to another door. The storyline itself is very simple. It follows Alice making her way up the walk path as she looks around at her surroundings confused before finally reaching the top of the path, where the final door opens and reveals a white light where it ends.

Schedule
13th January 2014 we have been given our brief for coursework 2. I have been given around 11 weeks to come up with an idea, do my research and pre-production paperwork and animate my project. Below is a schedule I have set myself to try and follow to help me keep on track with this coursework.
Week starting 13/01/14 to 20/01/14
By the end of this week, what I would like to accomplish is picking an idea out of the three topics we were given and have an initial idea down as to how I want my animation to go. If this is done then I would like to start on writing up the treatment for it.
Week starting 20/01/14 to 27/01/14
By the start of this second week I would have like to have a firm idea and a treatment ideally written and finished so I can move onto the next stage of pre-production and start developing my idea more by doing research on similar animations and characters. I would also like to start researching and thinking about different modelling techniques that I could possibly use.
Week starting 27/01/14 to 03/02/14
Following on from last week’s research, this week I would like to be at the stage where I can be finishing off my pre-production work, this includes finishing my research, my story development and put that into a storyboard which I can follow and my character and scene designs.
Week starting 03/02/14 to 10/02/14
By the start of this week hopefully all paperwork will be out the way, I will have a solid idea for story, character and setting so I can start modelling my character. Towards the end of this week I would ideally like to have the whole model finished so I can start applying textures to it.
Week starting 10/02/14 to 17/02/14
Hopefully by the end of last week I will have my character finished so during this week I can focus on texturing my character and adding detail and refining certain points that don’t look right. I would also like to get some feedback on my model from others to see if it looks alright. I’m hoping the texturing will not take long, so I can also get started on rigging my model this week.
Week starting 17/02/14 to 24/02/14
At this point I would like to be putting in my biped and setting it up and testing it so it works well with my model. Also during this week I would like to start box modelling my scene.
Week starting 24/02/14 to 03/03/14
This week I would like to be continuing on from where I left last week and be finishing off my scene so I can then start adding in materials to it. I want to be able also bring in my character and start setting up and playing with lighting the scene and doing test renders to see what it looks like.
Week starting 03/03/14 to 10/03/14
At this point I would like my character biped done, scene all modelled so I can spend the entire week animating and rendering. I would also like to get a little feedback sometime during the week on how my overall modelling looks and see if I can make any improvements.
Week starting 10/03/14 to 17/03/14
At the start of this week I would like to have rendered all my scenes out so I can take it into adobe premiere and put them all together and edit it relevant sounds and music. Once that is all done I will show my animation around and get a little more feedback. Towards the end of the week I will like to have started writing up my report as well.
Week starting 17/03/14 to 24/03/14
This week I want to finish off my report. Once the report is finished I want to get all my work and burn it onto a CD ready for hand in and test it to make sure it’s all working
Week starting 31/03/14
Hand in final piece of work to the CMS office.
