The Passenger Cabin

The passenger cabin must be as comfortable as possible in order that passengers would not be tired even if the flight is long.

The comfort of passenger cabin includes the following items:

• Sufficient specific cabin volume (volume per passenger).

• Comfortable seats.

• Convenient arrangement and equipment of buffets, galley, wardrobes and toilets.

• Good soundproofing, lowering the noise level of the cabin to available limit.

• Oxygen feeding and maintaining of air pressure.

• Sufficient lighting (natural and artificial).

• Good interior decor.

Passenger's comfort is achieved only when all above-mentioned requirements are met.

The size and design of the passenger cabin depends upon the size, type and design of the aircraft. There is aircraft design to carry 1 - 6 passengers, and there are airplanes designed to carry 50 - 70 passengers and even more. In small airplanes the passenger cabin for 1 - 6 passengers is directly aft the cockpit. Large airliners have separate com­partments for passengers, baggage and additional compartments - galley, buffet, ward­robes, and toilets.

The Power Plant Systems (1)

There are many aircraft systems. We shall consider the systems of the power plant. The power plant contains the fuel system, the lubrication system, the cooling system, the fire-extinguishing system, etc. The fuel system serves to deliver an adequate supply of clean fuel to the engine at the proper pressure and temperature under all flight conditions. The fuel system supplies fuel not only to the engine, but also to the auxiliary power unit. The fuel system provides fuelling, refueling, fuel jettisoning and fuel transfer.

The fuel system includes tanks, filters, lines, pumps and valves. Tanks are used for fuel storage. Filters are used for fuel filtering. The purpose of the pump is to provide fuel pressure. Lines are used for fuel supply from the tank to the engine. The valves permit the fuel to flow into the tank and to prevent its outflow. The fuel is delivered directly to each engine from the service fuel tank. The additional fuel is continuously delivered to the service tank.
