1.В период с 1 по 4 марта Российскую Федерацию с офици­альным визитом посетил Государственный министр и ми­нистр обороны Португальской Республики. В ходе визита он провел переговоры с министром обороны России, встретился с предсе­дателем Государственной Думы и министром иностранных дел России, а также посетил Санкт-Петербург и встретился с командую­щим войсками Ленинградского военного округа. Нынешний визит в Москву португальской военной деле­гации можно рассматривать как очередной шаг по пути ак­тивизации и расширения контактов между нашими страна­ми в военной области.В ходе состоявшихся переговоров с Государственным министром и министром обороны Португальской Респуб­лики были обсуждены состояние и перспективы двустороннего военного и военно-техническо­го сотрудничества.

2. Особое внимание на переговорах было уделено актуальным проблемам мировой и европейской политики. В част­ности, обсуждению вопросов, связанных с обеспечением стратегической стабильности и европейской безопасности, качеством и перспективами взаимодействия России и НАТО. Была затронута и такая, безусловно, важная на сего­дняшний день проблема, как нераспространение оружия массового уничтожения.

Переговоры прошли в конструктивном ключе, в атмосфе­ре доверия и заинтересованности. Их итоги показали, что взгляды сторон на решение основных международных про­блем близки или практически совпадают. Безусловно, это в немалой степени способствует дальнейшему развитию от­ношений между оборонными ведомствами России и Порту­галии, укреплению безопасности в Европе и мире в целом.
