Задание 1: Прочитайте и письменно переведите текст на русский язык.

Water Purification

Water is one of the most widespread and vitally important substances. It is not only the most abundant compound, but it is also necessary for life. Water is a constituent part of plants and animal tissues. From the chemical point of view water has many points of interest, for it enters into chemical reactions which are of fundamental importance. For many purposes it is desirable to have pure water. The purest natural water is rain. However it contains a great deal of impurities. One of the most important problems is to obtain water sufficiently pure. The choice of a process to be used for purification of water depends upon the uses for which it is intended.

Water of different quality is used in industry and every day life. Using water for steam boilers it is important to free it from substances that cause corrosion. Water containing substances that react with soap is not suitable for technical purposes. When water is to be used for drinking it is necessary to kill all the microbes which it may contain. To achieve this, water which is to be purified is thoroughly filtered. Another way to purify water is to boil it. To remove these impurities and to prepare chemically pure water suitable for scientific use, we take into account that water is a complex substance.

Задание 2: Перепишите предложения, подчеркните в каждом инфинитив и укажите его функцию, т.е. определите, будет ли инфинитив подлежащим, обстоятельством, определением или частью составного именного сказуемого. Предложения переведите.

Задание 3: Перепишите предложения, подчеркните Participle I, укажите его функцию, т. е. определите, будет ли оно определением, обстоятельством или составной частью сказуемого.

1. This ointment is indicated to patients suffering from eczema.

2. While testing this substance we found that it had several interesting properties.

3. We were measuring that distance with great accuracy.

Задание 4: Перепишите предложения; подчеркните глагол-сказуемое и определите его видовременную форму и залог; напишите форму инфинитива. Предложения переведите.

1. The experiment was being finished in our laboratory yesterday evening.

2. The test for purity will be carrying out at 3 o’clock.

3. The patient had a slight cold and was complaining of headache.

4. They were discussing the problem when I came in.

5. He is in depression so he is taking tablets containing Ginsing.

Задание 5: Перепишите предложения, подчеркните глагол to do и определите, является ли он смысловым, вспомогательным или словом заместителем. Предложения переведите.

1. Do you know the initial dose of this drug?

2. Pharmacist - technologist did a very important part of work.

3. The treatment lasts as long as the disease does.

Задание 6: Выпишите предложения, где конструкции с глаголами to have, to be выражают долженствование, предложения переведите.

1. While recovering the patient had to follow doctor's instructions

2. Caution is indicated when using this medicine in patients with renal insufficiency.

3. This drug is not recommended when you are to take antibiotics.

4. Water is a complex substance.

5. Aspirin has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial activity.

Задание 7: Перепишите предложения, подчеркните в каждом придаточное предложение; подчинительный союз или союзное слово обведите кружком; при бессоюзном подчинении укажите на место, где мог бы находиться опущенный союз. Предложения переведите.

1. I know how to change the conditions of our experiment.

2. We know the temperature of the sun is exceedingly high.

3. The force that links atoms together to form molecules is called the chemical bond.

4. The substance oxygen acts upon is oxidized.
