SOFTWARE ENGINEERING CODE OF ETHICS AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

Computers have a central and growing role in commerce, industry, government, medicine, education, entertainment and society at large. Software engineers are those who contribute by direct participation or by teaching, to the analysis, specification, design, development, certification, maintenance and testing of software systems. Because of their roles in developing software systems, software engineers have significant opportunities to do good or cause harm, to enable others to do good or cause harm, or to influence others to do good or cause harm. To ensure, as much as possible, that their efforts will be used for good, software engineers must commit themselves to making software engineering a beneficial and respected profession. In accordance with that commitment, software engineers shall adhere to the following Code of Ethics and Professional Practice.

Definition: The Software Lifecycle is a series of stages in the development of an applicationand is often used in Software Engineering.1.The project starts with a client's requirement for a system.

2.A Functional Specification is produced for the client. This states what the system will do, but not how. It lists the requirements of the system that must be satisfied.

3.Once the customer accepts the Functional Specification then the Design Specification is produced. This defines how it will be developed.

4.The software is developed according to the Design Specification.

5.The software is tested to check it matches the Design Specification.

Offshoring of Software Development: Methods and Tools for Risk Management.Offshoring is a widely used practice in the software development. It is mainly employed to reduce development costs. However, as in a number of studies have been shown, about 40 percent of offshore software development projects are flops. One predominant reason for it is the lack of standardized and practicable methods of risk management due to the inherent complexity of software development offshoring. Therefore, suitable methods and tools for the risk management specific to such projects are required. Firstly, this workshop will provide an insight into various aspects of the risk management of offshore software development. Secondly, tools and methods for the risk management will be discussed and presented. Thirdly, priorities for further research will be identified.

Traceability is the ability to verify the history, location, or application of an item by means of documented recorded identification.Other common definitions include to capability (and implementation) of keeping track of a given set or type of information to a given degree, or the ability to chronologically interrelate uniquely identifiable entities in a way that is verifiable.The term "measurement traceability" is used to refer to an unbroken chain of comparisons relating an instrument's measurements to a known standard. Calibration to a traceable standard can be used to determine an instrument's bias, precision, and accuracy. It may also be used to show a chain of custody - from current interpretation of evidence to the actual evidence in a legal context, or history of handling of any information.In many countries, national standards for weights and measures are maintained by a National Measurement Institute (NMI) which provides the highest level of standards for the calibration / measurement traceability infrastructure in that country.
