Translation patterns
1) Clause pattern:
English: IF/WHEN/SHOULD/IN CASE/IN THE EVENT Clause = Ukrainian:
У РАЗІ /НА МОМЕНТ + NOUN in the Genitive Case
e.g.
when a company is wound up – у разі ліквідації компанії;
b) English: UNTIL Clause = Ukrainian: ДО + NOUN in the Genitive Case
e.g.
until the company is wound up – до ліквідації компанії;
until the loan is paid in full – до повного погашення кредиту;
NB!
Like in general English Present Simple is used in most such clauses, but Present Perfect clause is highly recommended to emphasize the action committed.
e.g. Після призначення арбітра |
When the arbitrator has been appointed… |
У разі настання обставин непереборної сили
|
If the Force-Majeure Circumstances have occurred.. |
c) English: ADVERB + VERB = Ukrainian : ADJECTIVE + NOUN
e.g.
Інвестор зобов’язується докласти максимальних зусиль для своєчасного представлення документів до відповідних органів.
The Investor undertakes to exert its best efforts to promptly file the documents with the relevant authorities.
Prepositions
Prepositions are words used with a noun or pronoun, which show place, position,
time or method.
Prepositions such as to, in, from, between, after, before, etc. normally come before a noun or pronoun and give information about how, when or where something has happened (‘she arrived before lunch’, ‘I travelled to London’).
The main problem for the non-native speaker is remembering which preposition to use. There are no clear rules to follow in this respect, but some examples of common usages are set out below:
