The agriculture was and still is very important for our country. The system of higher education is well-developed in Ukraine and training of specialists for agriculture is an integral part of this system.

After leaving school young people can continue their education in different vocational schools, technical secondary schools and colleges. Here they learn not only general subjects but also receive a profession. There is also an agricultural college in Sumy and those young people who want to work in the agriculture of Ukraine study here. After finishing college they will work as technologists, agronomists, zoo-engineers on different farms and agricultural enterprises. Studying at college is closely connected with practical training. The students receive not only good knowledge of general subjects but acquire great experience in their future profession.

Vocational training lasts about 3 years. Usually every semester is divided into 2 parts: first 1-2 month of theoretical education and then practical training on one of the farms or agricultural firms. Then the finals come. After passing the graduation exams successfully, the students receive one of the agricultural professions. The most important of them are: agronomist, zoo-engineer, and veterinarian.

After vocational training young people have different opportunities for further education. They can go on with their studies at different agrarian universities and institutes. They have an advantage over school-leavers and can start with the 3-d or even 5-th semester there.

School-leavers can also enter these universities, but the preference is given to those who have practical experience and have a clear idea of their future profession.

The majority of universities are state and charge no fees, but sometimes students have to pay for their tuition. The studies at the University last in general 5-7 years. The applicants can choose faculties and specialties according to their abilities and desires. All faculties give Bachelor, Master, and other high academic degrees.

The academic year is divided into 2 terms: from September to January and from February to July. The students attend lectures and seminars. At the end of each term they take their tests and exams. Then there will be finals and graduation papers. The students orient their term and graduation papers, business plans towards the farms and enterprises they are going to work at. They take their practical training before the graduation exams. It deepens their knowledge and gives important practical experience.
