Passive Voice

  1. Define the tense.

1. Only a few examples will be given here.

2. His answer was appreciated by everybody.

3. A new exhibition has been organized in this building.

4. The most important documents are signed here.

5. Coca-Cola is enjoyed all over the world.

6. The new-discovered language was deciphered and described.

7. The most important archaeological collections are housed in museums.

8. This paper was first published in another edition, and is reprinted here with the permission of the editors.

9. According to one version the famous library was destroyed during the strife between Ptolemy XV and his sister Cleopatra for the throne; according to another it was burned six centuries later.

10. These papers were in their original form read at a conference of the English Institute, 1945.

2. Translate into Russian.

  1. He was admired not only for his technical skills, but also for his ability to attract people.

  2. He was sent only two copies of this book.

  3. They were asked about it yesterday.

  4. They were asked to come in.

  5. We were given only three tickets instead of five.

  6. She was given a watch as a birthday present.

  7. The visitors were shown many new exhibits.

  8. They were shown a large hall.

  9. We were asked to wait.

  10. She was advised to spend the summer in the Spain.

3. Translate into Russian.

  1. The question can be decided later.

4. Translate the following sentences paying attention to the Active and Passive Voice.

  5. People drink a great deal of tea in England.

5. Complete the sentences using one of these verbs in the correct forms:
