Exercise 14. Translate the sentences. Pay attention to the word “one”.

1. Their old car is much better than our new one. 2. She’s the one person I trust. 3. The opposition is at one with the government on this issue. 4. One should do one’s duty. 5. I’m not usually the one to complain. 6. The officer is the one who gives the orders. 7. He’s my one and only friend. 8. Fuel is one of the elements that create fire. 9. Exercise 15. 1) Give the plural form of the following nouns. Make up sentences using them.

Exercise 16. Put the verbs in brackets in the necessary tense form.

Exercise 17. Make the sentences negative. Put general and alternative questions.

1. He is a teacher of fire prevention. 2. My friend studied at the Academy of Fire Safety. 3. These women work at the Fire Safety Department. 4. It often rains in Great Britain. 5. Firefighters will pump the flammable liquid from a burning tank. 6. We took part in this conference. 7. They were at the airport when I called them. 8. I thought about it much. 9. They always do everything in time. 10. The scientists will finish the experiment in two months.

Exercise 18. Put the questions to the italicized words.

1. Class A fires involve ordinary combustible materials. 2. There are three primarily types of natural fuels. 3. Oxidizers include oxygen-rich salts. 4. Exercise 19. Put disjunctive questions to the sentences.

Exercise 20. Translate the sentences, make them interrogative and negative.

Exercise 21. Make the sentences passive.

1. A group of scientists joined us later. 2. He gave me a new task. 3. The professor often refers to this article. 4. We will send for his mother. 5. Water will absorb heat. 6. He usually answers the letters at once. 7. He drives the ambulance car. 8. I will meet the delegation. 9. Release of energy accompanies combustion. 10. We always discuss new films.

Exercise 22. Make the sentences active.

1. Definitions of some terms are given by the author. 2. Many qualified specialists were prepared by our Academy. 3. The fire will be extinguished by the process of smothering. 4. The child was saved by the firefighter. 5. Heat will be carried away from a fire by radiation and convection. 6. This fire is controlled by a non-conducting extinguishing agent. 7.
