С целью повышения процесса перевозки грузов Швейцарские ж.-д. разработали план строительства и реконструкции 15 сортировочных станций.
Наиболее крупные из них должны быть полностью автоматизированы. При автоматизации возрастает перерабатывающая способность станции и уменьшается количество вагонов, поврежденных при сортировке.
Сортировочная станция Базель-Муттенц поможет перерабатывать до 100 поездов по приему и отправлению, и сортировать до 4500 вагонов в сутки. Парк приема вагонов расположен на уклоне*. Благодаря этому составы не нужно надвигать на горку с помощью маневрового локомотива, потому что вагон начинает двигаться, и получает необходимое ускорение под действием силы тяжести.
Все эксплуатационные процессы*, возникающие при движении вагона от парка приема до сортировочного пути тесно связаны друг с другом. Для управления всеми горочными процессами применяется центра-лизованная обработка информации* с помощью ЭВМ.

A through passenger station has been constructed in the town of Kempten which lies on the main line from Munich to Switzerland. A new station there was declared to open on September 25, 1970.
The new station has five platforms for passengers and a track for postal traffic, a new main postal building being under construction immediately adjacent to the station. The platforms at the first-floor level are reached by a subway for both passengers and luggage.
All facilities required by passengers are grouped together: booking office windows, information desk, luggage office, a restaurant and snack bar, a bookstall and kiosks for travel requirements, telephone boxes and luggage lockers. The rear of the entrance hall leads to the subway. Above there are offices and the usual service facilities. Natural stone and wood are used as covering for the entrance building.
Text № 2. The Laboratory of Train Operation at the St. Petersburg
Institute of r/y Engineers
The laboratory is designed to teach the students safety measures and regulation of train operation. In the laboratory there is a model of a railway with ten yards.
The yards are connected with lines. One of the yards is a marshaling yard with a mechanized hump.
The up yard has reception sidings, a hump, sorting sidings and departure sidings.
In the down yard the reception and departure sidings are situated parallel to the sorting sidings.
The yard has a remote and individual control of signals and points (switches).
The hump has two retarders. The control of the retarders and the points of the sorting sidings is carried out by a panel installed in front of the model.
The uncoupling of cars before the humping is automatic. Near the model there is a column designed for the manual operation of two switches.
The single-track line has a semi-automatic block system. The station has a new system of power operation.
