Subjunctive Mood

Главное предложение

Придаточное предложение

Тип предложения

Will(shall)/can/may/must/might/to be going to do smth/present simple (general truth) or present continuous – expressing future meaning.

You will need a visa

if/whether + Present Simple (or Present Continuous or Present Perfect

if you are going abroad.

Type I (real condition)

Would (should)/could/might/ + Infinitive (without to)

I wouldn’t worry

if + Past Simple/Past Continuous

if they kept in touch with me.

Type II (unreal Present or Future)

Would (should)/could/might/ +have v3/v+ed

I would have done it

If + Past Perfect or Past Perfect Continuous

If I had had time.

Примечание: в придаточных дополнительных предложениях после глагола wish (как жаль, что; хотельсь бы) или сочетания if only (если бы).

Impossible, wish about the future

Wish(if only) + subject + would + Infinitive

I wish (if only) my brother would come and visit me.

Wish about the present

Wish (if only) + Past Simple

I wish you were here.

I wish you worked here.

Wish about the past

Wish (if only)+ Past Perfect + Infinitive

I wish I had given him my telephone number (I didn’t do it).
