Список устойчивых выражений с предлогами

an advantage/a disadvantage of something — преимущество чего-либо. The advantage of living alone is that you can do what you like.

(to be/to fall) in love with someone — влюбиться. Have you ever been in love with anyone?

(to be/to go) on a diet: сесть на диету. I've put on a lot of weight. I'll have to go on a diet.

(to be/to go) on holiday/on business/on a tour/ on an excursion/on a cruise etc. поехать в отпуск/деловую поездку/ путешествие/экскурсию/круиз. Richard is on holiday in France. Did you go to London on business or on holiday?

(to be/to go) on strike — начать забастовку. The miners are on strike.

(to be) on fire — гореть. Look! That house is on fire!

(to be) on the telephone/on the phone —1) иметь телефон. You can't phone me. I'm not on the phone;

2) говорить по телефону. I've never met her but I've spoken to her on the phone.

(to do something) by accident/by mistake/by chance — сделать что-либо случайно, ненамеренно. We hadn't arranged to meet. I met him by chance.

(to go/to come) for a walk/for a swim, etc. — отправиться на прогулку, купаться и т.д. She always goes for a walk with her dog in the morning.(to have something) for breakfast/for lunch/ for dinner — съесть что-либо на завтрак, обед, ужин. What did you have for lunch?

a cause of something — причина чего-либо. Nobody knows what the cause of his behaviour was.

a cheque for — чек на (сумму). They sent me a cheque for 100 dollars.

a demand/a need for something — нужда/потребность в чем-либо. Everybody knows women's need for love.

a photograph/a picture of someone/something — фотография, картина кого-либо, чего-либо. Не always keeps a photograph of his wife in his wallet.

a play by Shakespeare/a painting by Rembrandt/a novel by Dostoevsky, etc. — пьеса Шекспира, картина Рембрандта, роман Достоевского. Have you read any books by Charlotte Bronte?

a reaction to something — реакция на что-либо. I was surprised at his reaction to what I said.

a reason for something — причина чего-либо. What is reason for the delay of the plane?

accuse someone of (doing) something — обвинить кого-либо в чем-либо. Tom accused Ann of being selfish. The students were accused of cheating in the examination.

(be) afraid/frightened/terrified/scared of someone/something — 'Are you afraid of dogs?' — 'Yes, I'm terrified of them.'

an attitude to/towards someone/something — отношение к чему-либо/кому-либо. His attitude to/towards his job is very negative.

an increase/a decrease in something — увеличение/уменьшение чего-либо. There has been an increase in unemployment recently.

an invitation to a party/a wedding, etc. — приглашение на вечеринку, свадьбу. Did you get an invitation to the party?

apologise (to someone) for something — извиниться за что-либо. When I realised I was wrong, I apologised to him for my words.

apply for a job/a place at university, etc. — устаиваться на работу, поступать в университет. I think this job would suit you. Why don't you apply for it?

ask (someone) for something — просить о чем-либо. Wrote to the company asking them for more information about the job. Ho: 'ask (someone) a question' — задать вопрос (без предлога)

aware/conscious of something — осознавать что-либо, знать. 'Did you know they were married?' — 'No, I wasn't aware of that.'

believe in something — верить во что-либо. Do you believe in yourself?

belong to someone — принадлежать кому-либо. Who does this coat belong to?

blame someone/something for something — винить, обвинять кого-либо в чем-либо. Everybody blamed me for the accident; или: blame something on someone/something: — Everybody blamed the accident on me. I was to blame for the accident.

(be/feel) bored/fed up with something — испытывать скуку/раздражение. You get bored/ fed up with doing the same thing every day.

borrow something from someone — взять в долг что-либо у кого-либо. I didn't have any money. I had to borrow some from a friend of mine.

capable/incapable of something — быть способным сделать что-либо. I'm sure you are capable of passing the examination.

care about someone/something — придавать значение, считаться с кем-либо/чем-либо. Не is very selfish. He doesn't care about other people.

care for someone/something — 1) желать, хотеть (в вопросах и отрицаниях). Would you care for a cup of coffee?

2) любить, положительно относиться. I don't care for hot weather;

3) ухаживать, заботиться. She is very old. She needs someone to care for her;

4) take care of someone/something — заботиться, относиться с вниманием. Have a nice holiday. Take care of yourself!

complain (to someone) about someone/something — жаловаться кому-либо о чем-либо. We complained to the manager of the restaurant about the food.

concentrate on something — Don't look out of the window. Concentrate on your work!

congratulate someone on (doing) something — поздравить кого-либо с чем-либо. When I heard that he had passed his examination, I phoned him to congratulate him on his success.

consist of something — состоять из чего-либо. We had an enormous meal. It consisted of seven courses.

(to be) delighted/satisfied/disappointed with something — быть довольным/удовлетворенным/разочарованным чем-либо. I was delighted with the present you gave me. — Were you disappointed with your examination results?

depend on someone/something — зависеть от чего-либо. 'What time will you arrive?' 'I don't know. It depends on the traffic.

die of (an illness) — умереть (от болезни) — 'What did he die of?' 'A heart attack'.

different from/to someone/something — отличаться от чего-либо/кого-либо. The film was quite different from (or to) what I expected.

do something about something — делать что-либо, чтобы улучшить

ситуацию. The economic situation is getting worse and worse. The government

has: to do something about it.

explain something to someone — объяснить что-либо кому-либо. Can you explain this word to me? (not 'explain me this word') also: explain (to someone).

invite someone to (a party/a wedding, etc.) — пригласить кого-либо на вечеринку, свадьбу. Have you been invited to any parties recently?

leave (a place) for (another place) — уехать куда-либо. I haven't seen her since she left home for work this morning.

point/aim something at someone/something — указывать на кого-либо, что-либо. Don't point that knife at me! It's dangerous.

prefer someone/something to someone/something — предпочитать что-либо чему-либо. I prefer tea to coffee.

protect someone/something from (or against) someone/something — защищать кого-либо/ что-либо от кого-либо/чего-либо. Не put suntan oil on his body to protect his skin from/ against the sun.

provide someone with something — обеспечить кого-либо чем-либо. The school provides all its students with books.

regard someone/something as something — относиться к кому-либо каким-либо образом, считать кем-либо. I've always regarded you as one of my best friends.

spend (money) on something — тратить (деньги) на что-либо. How much money do you spend on food each week? — Ho: spend (time) doing something. I spend a lot of time reading.

throw something at someone/something — бросать что-либо в кого-либо. Someone threw an egg at the minister while he was speaking.

translate (a book etc.) from one language into another language — переводить (с одного языка). Can you translate this phrase into English for me?

warn someone about someone/something — предупредить о чем-либо. You have been warned about being late.

dream about someone/something — видеть во сне. I dreamt about you last night.

dream of being something/doing something — мечтать стать кем-либо, делать что-либо. I often dream of being rich.

famous for something — быть известным чем-либо. Turkey is famous for its beaches.

(to be) fond of someone/something — любить кого-либо/что-либо. Jane is very fond of music.

full of something — быть полным чего-либо. The letter I wrote was full of mistakes.

(to be) good/bad at (doing) something — хорошо/плохо делать что-либо. I'm not very good at repairing things.

happen to someone/something — случиться с кем-либо/чем-либо. A strange

thing happened to me the other day. — What happened to that gold watch you used

to have?

in (my) opinion — на мой взгляд. In my opinion the film wasn't very good.

(to be) interested in something — интересоваться чем-либо. Are you interested in art and architecture?

(to be) keen on something — любить что-либо, интересоваться чем-либо. Не is very keen on photography

laugh at someone/something — смеяться над кем-либо, чем-либо. Everyone always laughs at me.

listen to someone/something — слушать кого-либо/что-либо. We spent the evening listening to records.

on television/on the radio — на телевидении, радио — I didn't watch the match on television. I listened to it on the radio.

(to be) proud of someone/something — гордиться кем-либо, чем-либо. I'm proud of my son.

rely on someone/something — положиться на кого-либо, что-либо. You can rely on John. He always keeps his promises.

(to be) responsible for something — быть ответственным за что-либо. Не must be responsible for what he did.

to be similar to something — быть похожим на что-либо/кого-либо. Your handwriting is similar to mine.

sorry about something — сожалеть о чем-либо. I'm sorry about the noise last night. We were having a party.

sorry for doing something — сожалеть о чем-либо (употребляется с глаголом). I'm sorry for shouting at you yesterday.

(to be) surprised/shocked/amazed/astonished at/by something

быть удивленным/шокированным/изумленным/пораженным чем-либо.

Everybody was surprised/shocked/ amazed/astonished at/by the news.

(to be) tired of something — устать от чего-либо. Come on, let's go! I'm tired of waiting.
