-ОК-1-способность к обобщению, анализу, восприятию информации, постановке цели и выбору путей ее достижения, владение культурой мышления;

-ОК-2-способность логически верно, аргументировано и ясно строить устную и письменную речь, создавать тексты профессионального назначения;

- Повторить временную форму Past Simple Active/Past Continuous Active/Past Perfect Active;

-Тренировать навык изучающего чтения для перевода специальных текстов по теме «Физика»;

2) Информативное чтение «Early medical uses of light»: Задание1.

Выучите следующие слова и словосочетания по теме «Раннее применение света в медицине»: benefits of sunlight; to filter smth. out of smth.; band of light; to heal; to afflict; frequency; to award the Nobel Prize; contribution to treatment; light radiation; essential factor

The wound is healing quickly.

In the 1870s Niels Ryberg Finsen, a Danish physician and medical researcher, began to study the benefits of sunlight on human health. By filtering the UV out of sunlight, he produced a beam of infrared light. He discovered that the infrared light prevented smallpox from causing scars.

Finsen then applied his genius to helping people who had lupus vulgaris, a form of tuberculosis that had no known cure and caused very disfiguring skin lesions. For this disease, Finsen took a light source and used a filter to remove the infrared rays, thus producing a band of light in the UV range. The treatment method applied UV light to each of the skin lesions. In most cases, the lesions healed rapidly with one or two treatments.

Finsen was afflicted with anemia and impaired function of the liver, heart, and spleen, diseases which had no effective treatments at that time. While searching for cures to his own afflictions, he found that light of various frequencies could treat many disorders. Though he never cured his own diseases, Finsen was awarded the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 1903 for his contribution to the treatment of diseases with concentrated light radiation. He is known as the father of UV light use in medicine.

The Nobel Committee stated that there were two essential factors to the UV treatment: the effect of light on pathogenic microorganisms and the effect of light on the tissue itself.

Past Simple/Continuous/Perfect:

1) In 1800, a German astronomer, Fredrich William Herschel, _____________(to experiment) with passing sunlight through a glass prism. 2) He __________(to observe) that temperatures __________(to increase) the more he ________(to go) towards the red end of the spectrum. 3) Much later Marshall Ward __________(to discover) that it __________ (to be) the ultraviolet portion that __________(to have) the bacteria-killing properties. 4) Niels Finsen __________(to receive) the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1903, for his work using UV light to fight tuberculosis. 5) Ancient civilizations __________( to understand) that sunlight provides visibility, warmth, health and vitality. 6) Roentgen _________ (to realize) that he _________(to produce) a previously unknown "invisible light". 7) Before they _________ (to start) using ultraviolet light in medicine, scientists _____________ (to conduct) many experiments.
