Text “Mass Media”

As you know, mass media consists of the press, radio and television.

There are newspapers and magazines for readers of all ages, professions and levels of training, as well as for the enthusiasts of diverse hobbies. Besides, there are various periodicals based on particular interests. For instance, the newspaper "Accountant" is addressed mainly to businessmen, "Medical Newspaper" - to medical workers, and a lot of newspapers and magazines are published especially for teachers of schools, colleges and Universities, etc.

Today's Ukrainian periodicals are independent and the state guarantees their economic independence. Nobody can doubt the role of the press in present-day life. It is extremely important. People in our country are great readers of newspapers and magazines. A lot of them subscribe to various papers and journals which are delivered to their homes. I am fond of reading such magazines and newspapers as "Fakty", "Express", "Viva". Their contents deal with very burning problems of our present-day life and history, sometimes they are amusing and entertaining and touch upon cultural and sport events and life of famous people. Magazines and newspapers can be daily, weekly, quarterly or monthly.

There is a wide network of TV and radio broadcasting in our country. Television is now increasingly being used to analyse the socio-economic progress taking place in Ukraine. It focuses more on reports, discussions, commentaries and dialogues with viewers.

Many people watch TV at leisure. One can choose the programme one likes best. Those who like music can listen to various concerts. Sport fans can watch football or hockey matches. Television extends our knowledge about the world in which we live. Millions of people can see different lands, new plants, unusual animals and birds, mountains and valleys.

The national radio-and-television network of Ukraine is made up of government-run and non-government-run companies. Ukraine is a member of the International Telecommunication Union. Lately there have appeared the popular non-government TV companies "Tet-a-Tet", "Utar", "Gravis", etc.

The "UKRINFORM" (Ukrainian National Information Agency), the Ukrainian Independent Information Agency "Respublika" (UNIAR), the Ukrainian Independent News Agency "Interfax^Ukraina" (UNIAN) are Ukraine's popular information agencies. These agencies have correspondents and reporters in every administrative region and abroad and disseminate press, radio, photo, video and TV information both within and outside Ukraine.

Text Favourite TV Programme”

In my opinion, today's younger generation is better informed than ever. We are really lucky because of the media. But we all know that television takes much time of our everyday life. There are different ways to entertain yourself: you can kick the ball or ask your boyfriend or girlfriend out. But if you are a couch potato - television is up to you. Television extends our knowledge about the world we live in. We may travel all over the world without leaving our chairs. No wonder that television is so popular nowadays.

The most popular Ukrainian channels are "1+1", "Inter". They keep people informed about current events, the latest events in science and culture. As for me I always try to watch "TSN-News", different talk shows like "I think So..", "Bez Taboo" or "The First Million" and musical programmes. Different quiz- shows are also very popular with viewers.

Programme "Eureka LG" is my favourite ones. Questions concern different human activities : history, music, theatre, painting, geography, biology, sports and others. The programme educates while entertaining and enrich our outlook, encourages us to become more educated and intelligent and gives additional information to our school programme. People like to guess the correct answer during the programme. When we are right we feel as if we were millionaires. To my mind, the popularity of such programmes is in the chance to gain a fortune using your brains. They promise a dream-come-true.

If you like to travel you can watch a TV programme "Around the World", It is my favourite TV programme. It is a weekly programme. It is broadcast on Sundays. This programme is very popular in our country. Watching this programme you can see many historical places, get to know interesting facts about different countries and cities. You can enjoy yourself watching historic cities, wonderful castles and fantastic countryside. I like this programme and try not to miss it.
