  1. Do you agree that our school gives a person a good start in life? Why (not)?

I fully agree that our school gives a person a good start in life. Let’s take our lyceum, for example. The teachers of the lyceum are talented, hard-working and enthusiastic people. They always encourage us in our studies. I think they do credit to their profession. Nearly all our school-leavers enter universities and study there successfully. Naturally a good university education gives a person a good start in life.

  1. Ask me what kind of pupil I was when I was at school?

  2. You are talking with a British student. What would you advise him to do to prepare for an exam well?

Remember that practice makes perfect. If you work hard every day, you’ll be able to do well at the exam. Be persistent, hard-working, confident and patient. Do a lot of revision, drills, exercises and tests. As a matter of fact, do everything your teacher says and you will certainly succeed.

  1. Today some young people want to study abroad because they believe that the level of education is higher there. Would you do the same?

Frankly speaking, I am in two minds about it. On the one hand, I know that the majority of our universities give a good education to their students. But on the other hand, it must be very interesting to study abroad. You do not only receive your education there, you get acquainted with a new country, its culture, its people, its customs and traditions. So, probably, if I had an opportunity, I would like to study abroad.

7. School Traditions.

  1. Let’s talk about school traditions. What traditions does your school have?

I study at Mogilev Regional Lyceum # 1. Our lyceum has a lot of traditions. In my opinion, the most interesting tradition is going on a trip at the beginning of the first year at the lyceum. Students have an opportunity to get to know one another in informal situations. Nearly all our students went on the trip. We had a wonderful time there and returned home full of unforgettable impressions. Another interesting tradition is called “The Day of Childhood” which is held on the last day of the school year. It looks so nice and touching when everybody is dressed like a little boy or girl. I also like the ‘Chair’ tradition. Anyone can stand on this chair and read a beautiful poem. There are many more traditions, such as celebrations of different holidays, subject weeks, ‘Kapustnics’, sports competitions, and so on and so forth. They are all very exciting and we take part in them willingly.

  1. Does your school differ from any other school you know?

Our lyceum certainly differs from other schools. The very building of the lyceum is different. Its architecture is very impressive. The classrooms and studies look very spacious due to their high ceilings. In my opinion it is the best place to receive a proper education. What impressed me most on my first days at the lyceum was the fact that all the teachers addressed us ‘you’, not ‘thee’ as in the former school. It means that the teachers of our lyceum respect their pupils. They are kind, considerate and enthusiastic. They always encourage us in our studies. I think they do credit to their profession.
