Ex.10. Read and learn the rule:

СОЮЗЫ EITHER…OR, NEITHER…NOR

Союз either…or [`aic…`]:] переводится на русский язык «илиили» и употребляется в утвердительных предложениях: Tom is either in the garden or in the park. (Том или в саду, или в парке.) I eat either pancakes or porridge for breakfast.

(Я ем или блины, или кашу на завтрак.) В отрицательных предложениях употребляется союз neither…nor[`naic `n]:] в значении «ни…ни»: Tom is neither in the garden nor in the park. (Тома нет ни в саду, ни в парке.) Если в предложении есть отрицательный союз neither…nor, то смысловой глагол не имеет отрицательной частицы not.

Местоимение neither часто употребляется обособленно и означает «ни то, ни другое»: What would you like: tea or coffee? – Neither. I’d like some juice. (Что бы ты хотел выпить: чай или кофе? – Ни то, ни другое. Я бы хотел выпить соку.)

Оба местоимения часто употребляются в пословицах и идиомах:

Either win the saddle or lose the horse.

Или выиграешь седло, или потеряешь лошадь. = Или пан, или пропал.

Neither here nor there.

Некстати, не относится к делу = Ни к селу,

ни к городу.

Neither man nor mouse.

Ни человека, ни мыши. = Никого нет, ни души.

Ex.11. Ask and answer the questions around the class. Use negative sentences. Example: I don’t like porridge. And what about you? – I don’t like porridge either.

I won’t take ketchup with spaghetti. And what about you?

I can’t drink cold milk. And how about you?

What sort of man is he? – He is neither fish nor flesh. 6.- What day of the week is it today? It is either Thursday or Friday, isn’t it? – It’s neither Thursday nor Friday. It’s Saturday! 7.The house was absolutely empty; there was neither man nor mouse. 8.What are you talking about? It’s neither here nor there. 8.I can have either apples or oranges.

- We can leave either at five or at six.
