AIM AND OBJECTIVES
Semantic and pragmatic features of metaphor as a means of speech manipulation in the political discourse
The aim of the project is to provide an integrated classification of metaphor and give a comprehensive analysis of the semantic and pragmatic peculiarities of metaphor as a means of speech manipulation in political discourse.
This aim presupposes the solution of the following tasks:
- to characterize metaphor as a means of secondary nomination;
- to define the main types and functions of metaphor;
- to reveal the conceptual nature of metaphor;
- to explicate the manipulative potential of metaphor;
- to analyse the use of metaphor as a means of speech manipulation in eight public speeches delivered by G.W.Bush.
