МОтивационное письмо (Letter of motivation)

I am a PhD student of Dept. Physiology (Kazan State Medical University, Russia). I had began my research at the 2^nd course of my education at our University, under the supervision of head of department, professor Zefirov A.L. At the 2003 year I had received MD diploma cum lauda, and go for postgraduate education at the Dept. Physiology.

The main objects of my research is synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity. During the years of work in field of neuroscience I had assimilated different electrophysiological methods, including extra- and intracellular microelectrode recording, voltage-clamp technique, perineural recording.

My long-term scientific goal is attempt to reveal the mechanisms underlying different forms of short-term synaptic plasticity. In my last research the mechanisms of short-term facilitation and depression at the neuromuscular synapse were analyzed.

It is well known, that synaptic plasticity is a base of such important physiological phenomena as memory, cognition and learning. Plastic modifications of cell-cell connections are involved in many psychoneurological disorders, like epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and others. The profound knowledge of molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic transmission will allow us to uncover how brain work result in behavior. Thus, I am sure that research of synaptic transmission and plasticity are of great importance and practical advantage.

I sure, that my participation in “Cognitive Neuroscience Summer School on Working Memory” will give me a great opportunity to improve my skill in all main fields of cognitive neuroscience. Knowledge of present state of multidisciplinary research in cognitive neuroscience and theories of working memory will be of great use in my scientific work. Also, it’s a really great opportunity to create new effective collaboration with young neuroscientists from another laboratories and countries.

According to all above, I want to participate in “Cognitive Neuroscience Summer School on Working Memory” and send my application form.
