This time I’ll tell you about my University and my studies1. I am very happy to study at the Far Eastern National technical University of Fishery. Its other name is Dalrybvtuz. There are only two such Universities in our country: in Vladivostok and in Kaliningrad. Many famous people graduated from2 my University, and not only economists or scientists3, but a lot of outstanding4 seamen, engineers and politicians. Studying at our University gives a solid background5 in all spheres of knowledge6 and prepares for further practical work. Our University is quite large but not very old. It was founded at the beginning of the 20th century, in May of 1930. Its first Rector was M.I. Chesnokov. First it was merely an Institute of Fisheries and had only four faculties7, but later it became the largest University in the region which gave birth8 to other Institutions in Primorsky Kray. Nowadays it is a large school where more than 3000 students are currently enrolled9. The majority10 is full-time students11, like me, and the rest are part-time students12. There are also about 200 postgraduate students13. They carry out14 their research works15 and take some pedagogical practice. Dalrybvtuz can also be proud of16 the Sail Training Ship17 ‘Pallada’. This beautiful tall ship18 gives an opportunity19 to young trainees20 from different Colleges and countries, future navigators21 and marine engineers22, to experience a real voyage and marine practice all around the World.
Dalrybvtuz is one of the finest city's higher educational institutions. There are seven Institutes in my University, a Marine college and the Lyceum23. Dalrybvtuz also has a few affiliates24 in different towns of Primorsky region. So, my University comprises25 the Marine Institute26, the Institute of Fishery and Aquaculture27, the Institute of Economics and Management28, the Food Production Institute29, the International Institute30, the Institute of correspondence study31, and the Institute for Continuing Education32. I study at the Institute of Economics and Management, one of the oldest and largest Institutes of Dalrybvtuz. My major33 is Finance and Credits34, but there are also many other departments40 such as Accounting35, Marketing36, Trade Business37, Management38 and Sociology39.
The average course of study41 at my University lasts five years42. Thus, major specialists study for five years. But study course for Bachelor degree43 lasts four years while study course for Master degree44 lasts six years.
Our University is large and we have several45 building. There are many large halls46 there so that students of 3-4 groups together can fit in there. And that is more than 100 people. The acoustics in such large halls is very good but sometimes it is very noisy when students chat47 during the lecture. There are a lot of different facilities48 such as a modern library, computer centres equipped with49 new computers and the Internet, gyms50, different laboratories and workshops51. Many students from my group want to do their own research work15 in the future and these facilities48 will certainly help them.
There are several canteens52 at the University. My favourite one is “Evrasia”. It is situated on the ground floor53 of a five-storeyed building54 at Svetlanskaya Street. They serve tasty and rather affordable55 food there. And, of course, all of us love our student club ‘Pallada’ where we can get together to have a rest, celebrate56 the most important events of student life and take part in57 various extracurricular activities58. There are also several dormitories59 or hostel buildings60 where students from other cities or countries live.
