Theory

1.Stylistics and its objectives. Stylistic function. Stylistic information. Stylistic norm.

1. What are the key words of the seminar?

1. What are the meanings of the words "style", "function", "norm"? (Use an Eng­lish-English dictionary to define them.).

2. The general concept of style. Various definitions of style in language.

2.Functional style (give different definitions).

1. Differentiate between: individual style, idiolect, genre.

Theory

1. Speak on stylistic devices based on the interaction of logical and emotive meanings. Name the principles differentiating them.

a)Epithet.

• Differentiate between epithet as a stylistic device and descriptive attribute.

b)Oxymoron.

2. Name the main features and functions of the scientific prose style.

3. Speak on the news media style, its functions and principles of differentiation.

a) Comment on the main features of:

i) news reports and headlines;

ii) newspaper announcements;

b) Speak on the following varieties of the broadcast journalism

i) news bulletins;

ii) TV and radio commentaries.

4. Comment on the style of advertising, its functions and subdivisions.

a) Differentiate between:

i) oral variety of the style of advertising (commercial, informetials and such);
