II. Read and translate the text.
Text a Polotsk State University
PSU is one of the most dynamically developing higher educational establishments in Belarus. It is a diverse institution offering a wide range of courses and research opportunities.
Being the only higher school in the country it trains engineers for oil processing industry, pipe lines and geodesy.
PSU was founded in 1993 on the basis of Novopolotsk Polytechnic Institute (1968). There are nine faculties at our University. They are:
1. Chemical Engineering Faculty is one of the oldest faculties in the University. There are such specialties here as:
a) equipment for chemical industry and civil engineering(машины и аппараты химических производств и предприятий строительных материалов),
b) chemical technology of production and processing of oil and gas(химическая технология производств и переработки органических материалов(нефти и газа),
c) designing, building and maintenance of gas and oil pipelines and gas and oil storage tanks(проектирование, сооружение и эксплуатация газонефтепроводов и газонефтехранилищ);
2. Machine - Building Faculty
There are such specialties here as:
a) technology, equipment in machine building(технология, оборудование и автоматизация машиностроения),
b) technology and equipment for highly effective processes of machine building(технология оборудование высокоэффективных процессов обработки материалов);
3. Building - Engineering
There are such specialties here as:
a) heat and gas supply, ventilation and protection of air basin (теплогазоснабжение, вентиляция и охрана воздушного бассейна),
b) water supply, water removal, purification of water and sewage (водоснабжение, водоотведение, очистка природных и сточных вод),
c) civil and industrial engineering (промышленное и гражданское строительство),
d) architecture - архитектура;
4. The Faculty of Geodesy is the only faculty in our country which trains geodesy engineers for Belarus and even for other countries;
5. Radio - Engineering Faculty
There are such specialties such as
a) radio engineering (радиотехника),
b) design and production of radio electronic devices (проектирование и производство электронных средств),
c) computer systems and networks (вычислительные системы и сети);
6. The Faculty of Finance and Economics trains economists in four specialties:
a) economics and management of an enterprise (экономика и управление на предприятии)
b) management (менеджмент)
c) finance and credit (финансы и кредит)
d) accounting and audit (бухгалтерский учёт и аудит)
7. The Faculty of History and Philology trains researchers and teachers of History, foreign languages (English, German, French), future philologists at a European level.
8. The Faculty of Law trains lawyers on up-to-date legal knowledge.
9. The Faculty of Sports and Pedagogy trains teachers of Labour Education and Physical Training, future technologists, programmers and physicians, guides and managers in tourism.
Apart from nine faculties PSU has the Preparatory Department and the Preparatory Courses for whose who want to enter it. There is also the Extramural Department for the students who study by correspondence.
There is also the Updating Faculty which offers higher education in economics.
Many professors and highly qualified lecturers deliver lecturers and hold seminars in different subjects such as: physics, chemistry, mathematics, technical drawing, descriptive geometry, strength of materials, foreign languages, the history of Belarus, philosophy, psychology, pedagogy, etc.
The University is known for its up-to-date large computing centre, classrooms equipped with personal computers, language labs. There is a fine scientific library which is the largest information and bibliography centre of the region and the place to study. The library friendly stuff will help you to find your way round the complex world of information.
The library is a regional centre of culture where creative organizations, poets, artists, musicians and writers meet and collaborate.
The gala complex is used for musical events, lectures, meetings, festivals and conferences.
There is a health centre where students can have a rest and improve their health. Refectories, lecture theatres, 4 hostels, exhibition space offer our students areas to live, work and relax.
There are swimming-pools, sport grounds and gymnasiums for those who go in for sports. Students enjoy an out-of-town sport complex on the bank of the beautiful lake. Various students' and sport clubs hold parties, organize diverse contests and sporting events.
Long sport traditions organized and have been developed at the University. A lot of sportsmen have brought fame to the University and the Republic of Belarus on the world sport arena.
The University is famous for its achievements in educational activities. Students of the University take prize-winning places at the competitions in different subjects. Scholars and scientists well-known in this country and abroad visit our University.
There is Post-graduate courses for scientifically oriented graduates who are interested in science and want to get a scientific degree.
