MY SPECIALITY

I. Read and translate the text.

Our institute trains highly-qualified engineers for the automobile industry.

Automobile transport plays an extremely important part in the country's economy though it is considered to be only a service in­dustry. The USSR is fast becoming a leading car producer and a fleet of cars is steadily growing. Auto engineers, ensure its safe and ef­ficient operation.

To work out a sound transport policy engineers must work out the theory on the functioning of the modern transport systems practical application of which can make transport really comfortable and reliable. In their work auto engineers solve complex problems of cargo and passenger transportation which involve both economic and technical aspects. They are to coordinate and to control the volume and speed of traffic in order to make it optimal for the development of society.

Nowadays many of the engineers are approaching the problem of controlling the harmful emissions from today's internal-combustion en­gines. They have developed workable devices which decrease the exhaust of gases from an engine. Many scientists are working on steam-driven engines as replacements for internal-combustion engines. Others are working on electric engines.

The development of road transport greatly depends on effective use of scientific and technological achievements. The engineers work in the sphere of automobile design, automobile maintenance or repair. They modify the existing models and develop some new devices to improve general automobile specifications. All these things require special knowledge of automobile components.

Basically, the automobile consists of four components:

1. The engine which makes the vehicle move.

2. The framework or support for the engine and wheels.

3. The power train or mechanism that transmits the power from the engine to the wheels.

4. The body.

To these may be added a fifth component, the car-body accessories: the heater, lights, radio and other devices that contribute to the comfort of the driver.

Future specialists must get profound knowledge in the field of automation, telemechanics and computer engineering which are widely introduced in traffic control to meet modern requirements.

Economic – экономический, экономически выгодный, рентабельный; economic – имеет более широкую область применения, чем economical.

Economical – экономный, бережливый, экономичный.

Technical – технический /относящийся к технике, техническим наукам, промышленности; к определенному виду специальной деятельности; к совокупности приемов, используемых в каком-либо деле/ technical knowledge.

Technological – 1. технический‚ применяемый в широком смысле слова в таких сочетаниях, как technological progress;

2. технологический / применяемый к совокупности методов осуществления производственных процессов.

Техника – 1. совокупность орудий и средств, применяемых в общественном производстве machinery, industrial means.

2. область человеческой деятельности, связанная с изучением и совершенствованием средств и орудий труда engineering, science and engineering.

Technics – технические науки, технические дисциплины, технические методы the field of technics.

Technique – 1.технология, технические приёмы, методы;

2.техническое оснащение, аппаратура, оборудование measuring technique.
